Comments (37)I'd be interested if the quotes for the windows are from window dealers that are installing them. Those companies charge crazy prices for installation, and the homeowner has no clue as to the competency of the installation crew. IMO, the only way to go is to have a trusted finish carpenter measure and install windows and the contractor will be buying the windows from a builders supply company at a significant discount to what an average homeowner will pay for the same window. The most important aspect of the whole process is the quality of the installation. Lousy windows installed by a conscientious pro will last longer than top dollar windows installed by a schmuck. Any work done on a house that will come in contact with water had better done by the book or you'll be in a world of misery....See MoreAndersen 400 vs Marvin Ultimate clad
Comments (36)No, those are not installed prices. Just delivered to new construction site. The framers are installing them, under my supervision. Yes, the Andersen door we selected is terratone, a darker color than the Marvin color, but it is a door, not a window and the colors actually contrast pleasantly. Others might have a different opinion, but we liked the combination. I'm pretty sure the Andersen warranty is the same as the Marvin, and this door is under a porch that extends out up to 16 feet. It will seldom see any blowing rain or any direct sunlight. As for the showroom doors we looked at, the Andersen to us was just a better looking door. But the fit and finish looked much better to us. The Marvin's weatherstipping while probably effective looked sloppy to me, uneven, sticking out here and there. The door operation was not as smooth as the Andersen. And about $250 more in cost. So we went with the Andersen, even though I REALLY wanted to like the Marvin as it would have been easier to get it from the same dealer as my windows....See MoreOpinions on Windsor Pinnacle vs. Andersen (400 and A-Series) PS Loewen
Comments (5)Thanks WoW! I don’t need a wood window. Only requirement is black exterior. Windsor and Andersen were easy options because my Framing company carries them. Loewen (unfortunately out of budget) is from an independent installer/dealer who also carries Andersen, Lincoln, and Provia. What are your top choices in the Windsor/Andersen budget range? I’m open to another brand/material but these are the things that have been holding me up: I have a full light front entry door with sidelights and transom. There are also three sliders (2 three panel, and 1 lg 8x12 four panel). It’s hard to find showrooms that have similar floor models to test out. Would like them to operate well and feel solid. Same with front door. I’d like it to “feel” like a front door and not a “patio” door. Know what I mean? Installation company. Was hoping to have sales and install from one company. From the forum, I see that Marvin Integrity would be a wise choice, but I sent a bid to a dealer/installer and what I got back had so many errors and took so long to receive, I didn’t feel comfortable moving forward. Is it best to blanket all Marvin dealers with a bid request and see who rises to top? Or another brand that you recommend? I’m in Pittsburgh. Thanks....See MoreAndersen 100 Series vs Sunrise (Casements)
Comments (48)I just received 8 large 100series Andersen windows to be installed in my sunroom. My builder found one cracked and said the others were cheaply made and he didn’t feel right putting them in as cheaply made as they are. So....... we are sending them back and now I have to wait another 12 weeks or more for another set of windows to be made somewhere else. They DEFINITELY won’t be Andersen windows. Very disappointing!...See Moredarylfcf
