Red/purple foliage shrub?
Comments (10)Hi Idabean. Were you asking me to check on barberry? If so, I can almost guarantee you it is not on our state's list of invasive species as it is one of the most overused plants that landscapers use around here. As a matter of fact, we had it at our last property....pretty color in both summer and fall. But I was not a fan of being poked when trying to navigate around it. Not to mention the fact that the ones I see in our immediate neighborhood don't seem to be thrilled with the sandy "soil" we have. Though we did put in tons of black dirt before we laid everything down...I don't think the barberry would be at the top of my shrub list this time around. Thanks again...and no offense to barberry lovers. I do enjoy their beauty when they grow well (in other folks' yards). ;) Kristy :)...See MorePurple/red shrub for shade?
Comments (6)'Diabolo' ninebark will be green in anything less than full sun, though it will grow normaly. The same will apply for the purple or yellow barberies. In Japanese maples department you could find plenty of choices for short and tall, narrow or wide growing plants with red leaves....See MorePurple leaf shrub leaves turning green
Comments (4)keep in mind.. days are getting shorter... the intensity of the sun is in decline ... so the leaves might be said.. to be greening up ... to be able to store what it needs for winter.. and next year ... entirely normal ... ken...See MoreRed / purple shrub substitute for purple leaf sand cherry
Comments (2)I'd look at one of the dwarf ninebarks, like Physocarpus 'Tiny Wine' or 'Little Devil'. Or a dwarf weigela - 'Fine Wine', 'Spilled Wine' or 'Midnight Wine' (makes me want to go pour a glass!!). While these may not remain as small as 2' feet, they are quite prunable. Far more so than a Japanese maple might be :-)...See MoreSaypoint zone 6 CT
