Faux stainless steel film to cover appliances
Comments (7)(1)Trying to do the super-exact measuring and cutting with something more than a pair of scissors or a box cutter (this stuff is likely thicker than the Contact Paper version of stainless, which I put on a folding TV tray, and my Exacto blade wasn't really great on it), plus dealing with that tricky oven window ... and the possibility of you not liking it and having to remove whatever residue is left on the appliances. vs. (2) the eclectic look! Black and stainless go nicely, IMO. Can't really get a good visual of the glazed chocolate island, yet, but with the additional stainless hood, it will probably make everything fit together just fine! Take advantage of AnnCaroline's offer -- the small practice piece will give you some big answers, I'm sure....See MoreNew Dormer Window to cut into roof....
Comments (3)Cutting a dormer in is quite easy. As for leaks it all ends up on your contractors back. If flashed properly you should have no leaking issues. I happen to grow up in a house the same way. i know of many people who cut dormers in and loved them when finished. Just make sure you cut two of them in to balance the roof out. I've seen them only cut one in and it looks funny. As for the window A/C unit I would try and steer clear of that. If the house was similar to the one I grew up in it has a crawl space on that sloped side of the house. You can access the rafter ends from this crawl space and have the space insulated with the spray on low expansion foam. This will insulate and also act as an air infiltration barrier to keep the house cooler upstairs in the Summer. Believe it or not your heat is going right through the sheetrock and out. Ounce you close off that air infiltration you can just add vent booster fans to the registers going to the top floor. These can be wired to your thermostat and work with the HVAC system to boost air flow to the upper floors. If done right it can save you money in the long run than the window unit upstairs. Check into a home energy analysis and see where your leaking out. Most state's offer these at no cost or a very low cost to the consumer. Each state has a large pool of money that is funded by the local utilities to make homes more energy efficient. It won't hurt to check into it. Good luck with the dormers, you'll love them!!...See MoreDormer window treatment
Comments (12)The dormer shouldn’t exist if it has no function. Too bad it can’t be open into the ceiling to be a clerestory window to allow more light into the interior....See MoreBedroom Dormer Window Design Ideas Needed!
Comments (1)You could do a chaise like this in the dormer for a spot to relax, read, text, etc.. You can add drawers underneath for more storage. The chaise wouldn't have to fill the entire dormer. This one almost does, but you can make it shorter if you want. Start saving for a lift TV cabinet with swivel to put at the foot of the bed. you can watch from the dormer or the bed. Shop second hand or Habitat stores for some solid doors you can cut to fit the closets. Maybe you can find some bi-folds or even use old shutters to make doors. Also consider using shades on them. Unless you want to put the bed in front of the window, it is probably in the best spot. Sliders Bi-folds...See MoreD M PNW
