Aglaonema with no leaves rescue

My friend gave me an Aglaonema pictum "Tricolor" that was not doing well, it was kept semi-hydro and was brought to me bare root wrapped in wet paper towels and the one remaining leaf was starting to yellow, the roots were very nice though. I potted it in 1:1 mix of potting soil (Organic Mechanics premium blend) and perlite, and kept it on a seed starting mat for heat. Within a day the leaf had completely yellowed and fell off. The stem is still green, is there any chance theres enough photosynthetic pigment to get a new leaf out? Any advice would be appreciated.
