My dh is adament about not taking up the ceramic floor. However, it's 8x8 white marble-looking tile and not only is it a dated look, I am sick to death of keeping it (especially the grout) clean. I was going to keep it and use grout colorant on the grout after we finish the kitchen facelift. But now I'm thinking granite or some other stone counter and if I really do that, the floor will really look terrible. Soooo, there is Allure that looks like stone or ceramic tile, and some that looks like wood. The guy at Home Depot said you don't have to put a leveler on the grout lines, and I read on the website that that is true if they are less than 1/8" deep, which mine are. But I still wonder if, over time, they won't sink into those lines. I could skim more grout on top of the grout lines so it is level with the top surface of the tile, and then at least the tile isn't ruined if at some point we take off the Allure. But I'd like to hear from someone who has done it. Anyone?

I think you would ruin the ceramic tile for good. For the next remodeling it would be a matter of removing tile and planking. R u concerned about removal cost? Those guys do that in a blink, so not a big budget component. Yes, it is messy and you'll be dusting for weeks. Even so, my professional tile setter sprinkled water when removing old tile which reduced a lot of the flying dust. You could do it yourself to save $ but the time and effort are not worth it, IMO Another consideration is that when you leave tile and add something on top, you raise floor height and will have to trim doors, etc. It is not a cost saving strategy.

IMO no . First if just planks with no other material under them the tile will telegraph through the planks and if there is a material under the planks then chances are the floor will be too high and it will affect many things including appliances like the DWand doors not fitting .

Only the last one and honestly I would take the time to remove the tile and do all the floors the same . That tile drives everything in your kitchen what floor did you choose for the rest of the house that is what goes in there
