Thanks so much, Steve. Outside looked better than the inside, isn't that the truth! We really haven't had alot of people over to the house for pool parties other than close relatives because we were so far behind inside the house on things that we should have done years ago. We finally had to just buy the wood (the HD thread forced me to act quickly, price and quality at the same time), order the tile, and make an appointment for them to come and install it. That forced us to schedule painters. We then had to get our "stuff" moved and ready for all of this activity. The paint made the biggest difference. You saw our wood floor, but now our tile is done (he had to come back and redo all of the grout) and looks wonderful. We installed ours right over our vinyl. Ours was down to stay. We'll now have to finish the living room and family room wood floors which is an area at least 4 times bigger than the dining room. I hope that our old knees will hold up to that. I'm going to use the knee pad from the very beginning next time and not wait until they start to hurt! We didn't paint or do tile because my husband had some serious neck problems. With the wood floor, we can all help and take our time if we need to. I have to say, even with all of the tile dust in the house, the wood floor looks great. I'm really excited about this whole project. It's like getting a new house. I finally picked and ordered a toilet with help on the bathroom forum (I love Garden Web...where else will someone send you a picture of their toilet and a description of how it works), and I can't wait until it gets here. When we built our house, we concentrated on size, and things like good windows, insulation, etc. The floor coverings, cabinets, and bathroom fixtures were all basic. It's so much fun to finally get what I've wanted. I wish you luck, and hope that everything works out inside like it finally did on the outside. When everything is finished I think I'm going to go through Garden Web withdrawal. I still love looking at the pool builds on the Swimming forum, so maybe I'll just never leave! Ooops, I just this. The floors are carlisle wide plank pine 8-12" in the sturbridge brown stain/tung oil finish. I hope this is helpful.

Travertine comes different varieties and colors. If you do find a variety that you like, make sure to get samples from the current "lot" or "lots" available. They can often vary a great deal, and your choice might look completely different from the display sample. And, as it's a natural material, even tiles from the same lot, can vary a great deal. FWIW, we used a lovely pink toned travertine in our hall bath. It came in 12x12 tiles, which our tile guy cut down to 6x12's. So if you find a travertine tile you like, but the dimensions don't work for you, you might be able to have it cut down.
