I'm using a very classic looking polished nickel pull on my cabinets and the one drawer in my bathroom. I'm thinking of using knobs on the upper cabinet rather than pulls, just to have something a little different (the upper cabinets literally are right on top of the drawer, this is a linen closet), but not certain yet. I need to look at pictures. I'm worried that people will get their clothing "hooked" on the vertical pull, but then, you can get hooked on a knob too. Perhaps I'll have another quarter inch put on the granite countertop so that we don't lean towards the cabinets quite as much. I'm going for a more traditional look, my feeling is that "no hardware" is more contemporary looking. I bought my pulls at Lowes. They are lovely, so bright and shiny.

Personally, if I saw a door handle one finish on one side and another on the other side, I'd find that strange. Door handles should match each other in the house (or so I thought), not the finish in each room. It will be much more noticeable that you have a two toned door knob than the fact that the door handle doesn't match the other metals in the bathroom. People do not normally notice what door handles match the interior of the room they are in. At least I never have. Unless you think the people who visit you would actually think a two toned handle is appropriate, I wouldn't try that trick. What do the interior door knobs in the rest of your house look like? Also, remember, too much matchy matchy is boring and not noticed but instead blends all together. If you change to a two tone knob then which one should the hinges match? See my point? One thing can lead to another and before you know it you're stressed to a frazzle and for what, a door knob? I'll show you my grays hairs to prove my point. LOL My guest bath hardware is in an antique bronze, almost black finish, yet the door knobs that are in that room and throughout the house are crystal with brushed nickle back plates. Do you think anyone is going to look at my crystal door knobs and think, oh she should have put in antique bronze? Of course not. As long as your selections are stylish, the metal color is not the breaking deal on a bathroom door. Forgot to mention the handles on the antique dresser in my guest bath are antique brass, a third finish in that tiny room. Yet, it all is very beautiful. You have to trust your heart and your eyes sometime and not just think everything has to match exactly, because it does not. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

We have a totally traditional house and have levers and they don't look modern at all. Funny story though. When DS was in college he came home one day and was trudging down the hall, as boys that age are apt to do, and caught the strap of his back pack on the lever handle of the linen closet. Because he was moving rather quickly, before he knew what was happening, it spun him around and slammed his face into the wall. When he called to tell me he was going to the eye doctor to replace the glasses that were just broken, he couldn't stop lauging. He's 35 now and we still laugh about it. That being said, I've caught the strap of my purse on DM's door knobs many times, so I think there are pros and cons for each. I did read somewhere that levers were better for the elderly and handicapped. Good luck!

I would stick with nickel for all the knobs, in both rooms. Black will look very stark with your other options, and in your bathroom, the floor gives you enough darkness. Round is better than square for knobs because over time as they need to be tightened, the square ones get crooked. I like your third lighting option, which looks more sophisticated. I would wait on the bathroom mirrors until you see the completed space. At that point, it will be more apparent whether metal or wood frames are better, and what shape/size is best.
