How many lights for a kitchen with a very limited natural light?

Hi all

Could you provide some advice on amount of lighting required for my project?

i want to use recessed ceiling lights rather than traditional pendants in the kitchen(22sqm) ) that have limited access to the natural light.

From my research it looks like I require 300-500 lumens per square meter (plus task light in the kitchen) or approx one recessed light per square meter. This sounds A LOT!! 22 lights for a 22sq m kitchen?

Is my thinking correct? Do I really need so many lights? I don’t think the real life kitchens ever had their ceilings so tightly spiked with lights!!

Many thanks!
