Nook for a wardrobe and dresser

Dom
The current closet is only 17" deep to the (outside) drywall. Not at all big enough. It also extends nearly 75" from the left corner.I want to create a nook for a wardrobe and dresser. That looks built in. Currently the height of the closet extends to 85" only.Wondering if this idea would look silly as most wardrobes at nearly 20" and therefore would extend beyond the wall by 3". Do I bump out the bulkhead above to match the depth? Do I cut the opening exact for the dresser and wardrobe I choose? What potential is there that this looks terrible? Or is there another solution to my problem. One other little issue, is that a chimney bump out is protruding from the wall and may interfere with the closet door slightly, say if I decided to get a deeper wardrobe.
