When I saw the title of your thread, I was going to say, no, I am retired. I don't care what time it is anymore! However, being able to make calls is pretty cool. I often think I should carry my phone when I walk the dogs now, but in the warm weather, it is a pain in the neck to carry. If I am wearing a coat, it is easy to slip it into a pocket. Now, you have me thinking...

I have the 3 version and love mine, especially the cellular capabilities. Being able to answer my phone while working out in the yard away from my phone are worth it to me. Heck, just the fact I don’t have to run and find the phone in the house when it rings is great. I think the features of the 4 sound pretty good as far as the fall detection for those living alone.

My SIL’s mother just got one for that very reason. She is 82, formerly very active, and wanted the peace of mind.

Yes, it fails as jewelry! I wouldn't wear an Apple Watch all the time.

My 20 yo fine Italian watch finally gave out at the most inopportune time. I purchased it in Florence, back when Lira was the currency! For my trip to Sicily, I ran out the day before flying and purchased a Movado impersonator style -- a Citizen Eco with a black time face. When I'm on a street in a foreign country, I hate to pull my iPhone out of my purse, just to look at the time. I also don't want to attract attention with expensive jewelry, although I tend to wear a very nice bracelet when I'm in Paris.

I'm looking at this for practicality (and the security because I live alone)-- on my 3-5 mile walks with my dog. Gardening without an iPhone in my pocket. Chores around the house, where keeping my iPhone handy is a real PITA. Workouts, etc.

I love watches too and this watch is not particularly lovable, however I am getting a lot of "peer" pressure from my boys to get one. The one thing I like about it most is the exercise incentive- it's the reason I had DH get one- he gets very focused on challenges like that.

The Hermes strap doesn't even make it look better :-(

No for a couple of reasons. One, I don't want to be tied to a phone. Two, I don't wear a watch, and would never wear the big bulky (to me) Apple watch. If I were a watch wearing person, it wouldn't be worn all the time, so what would be the use?

Having something with you while walking is a good idea. But I wouldn't purchase something so pricey for that. I tuck my phone in a pocket, bra strap (where it meets the cup), etc. when walking. Yes, my good friend was a good example of that when she fell at 5:30 in the morning (no one around), her husband still in bed, etc. but had her phone with her. She was out walking and broke her ankle and one wrist. The arm straps (whatever they are called) that runners use are good too.

Ok, my gadget-loving dh got me one for Christmas last year. I didn’t ask for it, but had thought they looked fairly cute on my friends when worn with “athleisure-wear.” lol!

Pros: The main pro for me was exercise-tracking. I’d never had a fit bit, but as a runner I did have a big, clunky Garmin watch which I wore occasionally when I needed to specifically track my running distance, but it was a pain. The Apple Watch was great for this, so easy to exercise in. And I became obsessed with “closing all my circles,” :) I occasionally answered calls with it and used apps on it...but it is such a small screen!

I liked the way it looked with my workout clothes and other super casual stuff...but since I was obsessed with tracking my calories and moving, I wore it most of the time, lol. It was pink & didn’t match everything, but I was addicted.

Cons:

You notice this is all in the past tense. I am still so angry I am tempted to chuck all of my stash of Apple crap and go back to Windows and get a Galaxy phone. In June, after having it 6 months, all of a sudden the screen cracked. Severely. I had just gone on a run & it was fine, next thing you know the screen is cracked. I don’t remember knocking it, and it would have been a hell of a knock bc it was cracked to the point it wouldn’t work. I stopped by the Cell Phone Repair place to get a quick fix, but they don’t/can’t fix watches. So I groaned, and made the dreaded appt at the Genius Bar. *puke emoji* Found out that they could send it in & fix it for $200-something dollars! It was 6 months old! A new one was $300-something for the same model. I was livid...and now have a broken watch. Absolutely refuse to pay that much to fix something. They basically want you to be frustrated with the repair cost and get a new one. No way. I can live without an Apple Watch. Screw you, Tim Cook, lol.

A review I read says that it needs to be charged every day. I assume you have to remove it to do that. And I assume it is not waterproof? Which means removing it before the shower.

I charged mine at night. And it charges pretty quick.

DYH, I dont have an opinion on the Apple Watch but hope you don’t mind if I respond to Nini, about my Garmin Watch. Last year, the band on my old Garmin Foreunner 110, which I only used for running, broke. Because of the design, the band is actually part of the watch so I couldn’t just order a new band. I looked online and the replacement was something like $50! What?! The watch was fairly old so didn’t seem worth it to pay $50 for a band at that point. So I called and they said they could replace it for $25 but I still had to send the whole thing in. Before I got around to doing that, dh surprised me with a new one. While not an Apple Watch (I actually get asked that about my Garmin all the time), it does receive text messages and phone calls. I’m sure it does a few other things but that’s all Ive found convenient. I do wear it 90% of the time because I rarely get dressed up and I like all the exercise features. I use it for running but also like to see how many steps I take, how much I’m sleeping, etc. The nice thing about having it synced with my phone is that if my phone is in my purse or elsewhere in the house, etc, I know right away if someone is texting or calling me. If I’m talking with someone, I can discreetly look at my watch to see who it is and make a mental note to call or text later. It definitely doesn’t have all the features of an Apple Watch, and honestly I don’t need that. But if you aren’t keen on replacing yours (I would be annoyed too!), maybe look at the Garmin. Mine is the Forerunner 35.

Ok I confess I'm addicted to my watch. I first got the Watch Series 2 than when they added cellular I bought the Series 3. I now have the Series 4. I love my watch. I can read my email, respond to text messages, get news alerts, listen to music, podcasts, buy my coffee, groceries, clothes at Macy's, Nordstroms and other places without a wallet or a purse. I turn on music, change the TV channels, see my calendar, get the weather, and the list goes on. Oh I answer phone calls when I walk the dogs or cleaning around the house, doing laundry, etc. As I'm driving it vibrates and gives me an arrow as to which way to turn. I can send a signal to my iPhone as to where I left it in the house. Ok I'll stop now. Oh just thought of another I locked my purse in my car and used my watch to call AAA!

Nini, I never drank the Apple Kool-aid and got really annoyed at them about 11 years ago when an Apple store genius deleted all my emails on my me.com account (now icloud). I have an iPad for traveling but won't buy any other of their products. Oh, and the Ipad which isn't that old and not abused is now not keeping a charge ... didn't Apple get sued for messing with batteries on older iPhones. Need to google if there are similar issues with iPads. I've seen several MacBooks that had batteries that went bad right after the warranty expired.

Very happy with my Samsung Galaxy phones.

My issue with the watch is that people assume you are contactable 24/7. For me, this would be an issue both for work and family. I'm sure some see this as a bonus, but for me, it is a negative.
