Comments (9)Thanks so much all! I did look at the site listed on the houzz page but it is just the store's site, there are no products listed. I'm going to check out top knobs & some of the recommended links, thanks!!!...See MoreSearching for a shelf/organizer like this...
Comments (2)Take a look at drawer and desk organizers instead of shelves. They are available in black wire mesh. I've linked to one below, but you can find them on Amazon and other web sites and at stores like Bed Bath & Beyond. This one even has a drawer. :-) Search terms to use: desk organizers, drawer organizers, office products, flatware storage, wire mesh Here is a link that might be useful: Staples black wire mesh desk collection...See MoreStaron Solid Surface - looks like quartz?!?
Comments (8)steph2000: In about two hours, I'm going to refinish two separate solid surface countertops, so I have some familiarity with this. The gloss level of solid surface is determined by how high of a grit I continue to in my progression. On today's refinishes, I may start with an 80 or 120, depending on how beat up the tops are. I start with a used paper first, because if you're not a spotless cleaner, your top crud will clog my paper. I'll go to 240, 320, and 400. I may finish with a red Scotch Brite pad or a 500 Abralon, depending on color, particulate, matte or semi-gloss. I may go to a gray Scotch Brite, which is about 800. It's very seat-of-the-pants and "artsy". I've got 1,000, 2,000, 3,000, and 4,000 Abralon in my arsenal along with MB 20 granite polish, which will all make solid surface look like a car in a showroom. This is a picture of a Corian Nocturne (solid black) making a transition to a lower LG Hy-Macs Cork top on a lanai pass-through I did last week. I stopped at 500 Abralon for both. (I recycled the granite about a year ago.) Topical products like Countertop Magic do a great job of making water bead on countertops and add gloss, but don't remove scratches which can only be done mechanically. The more glossy the surface, the more perfect the solid surface seams have to be. The adhesive polishes more quickly making a glossy line the higher the sheen. One of the biggest advantages of solid surface is making ultra sanitary cove corners nearly seamlessly. You can have a seamed undermount stainless steel sink with solid surface. I've had a single bowl "D" shape in my kitchen for almost 3 years and my wife and I love it. Try the Karran Edge E-540 for a super quality large single bowl....See MoreWhich quartz countertop looks most like Concrete?
Comments (23)Hi Susanrhill24, we did this reno, rented it out, COVID and other stuff happened and I didn't see the house for about 3 years. When I saw the kitchen again for the first time it was covered in water marks and stains.. looked terrible! I guess they didn't remember how I told them to clean it (more about that in a bit). After I was done they looked like new (except for a tiny chip at the sink - ah well). I did not go with honed. With lighter colors I find that the gloss doesn't bother me as it does with dark/black, where you can see every fingerprint. Having said that, when I clean after dinner I do give it a quick once-over with a dry or thoroughly wrung-out microfiber cloth to prevent the dried-on water patterns forming. I find I have to do that with whatever countertop material is used, so that isn't a quartz thing. For future reference: If I really want a dark countertop I usually go with a leatherized finish as it's more cleanable than honed. Honed is like a million tiny holes. Have you ever tried to clean frosted glass? It's bloody impossible! Same thing with honed.. oil goes in those tiny craters and because you can't wipe them out it stays put. I've heard Mr. Clean helps because it's spun glass? I haven't tried it yet. Anyway, leatherized is where they take the gloss off with an acid wash, which makes it a smooth, gently pocked finish, but not glossy. It's so lovely. It makes the black look more dark grey though, so watch out for that. If you're interested in an example, have a look at this house I did last year: tiny url . com / sunset 3d (put that in a browser without spaces.) That island is black with white veins. Would have looked completely different with a glossy finish. The way to clean quartz is with Soft Scrub Gel Cleanser with Bleach (search Amazon for that), and with Scotch-Brite's green and yellow scrubbies (not the blue and blue, which is softer). Squirt the gel on the countertop and spread it over the affected area (I just use my hands). Leave it for a minute, and scrub it. Don't be afraid to use force. It's like magic. I've used it on different colors quartz and it works every time. My pure white bathroom countertops (same house, same tenants) came out as pristine as the day they went in. Gosh, this turned into an essay :) Good luck! Forgot to say that I really like the stainless steel backsplashes. I thought they were going to be a pain/scratch, but they're not/didn't....See MoreMolly M
