Comments (12)Queen of Sweden is a lovely, bs-resistant rose, but mine grows rather upright, with many of the blooms towards the top. I don't grow Generous Gardener, but I have seen it highly praised by several posters. I'm under the impression that it is not as vertical-looking as Queen of Sweden--more round and bushy. Supposedly very bs-resistant. Graham Thomas is very popular and has gorgeous blooms, but in some regions (California mainly, I think) it can get really tall--acting more like a climber. Don't know how it would do in your region. I think it has some trouble with BS sometimes. Rarely see any mention of Charles Darwin (kinda colorless in lots of pics) and Claire Austin, Evidently Lady of Shallot wasn't available at your nursery? Too bad--excellent taller and fuller rose--very modern colors--bs-resistant. Do you know helpmefind.com ? You can search for each rose on it and get all kinds of info--and see lots of pics. Here is Generous Gardener at helpmefind.com . Austin roses come in different heights and shapes--and different kinds of blooms. It might help if you tell us what height and width you are imagining, and what colors you like best or least. Problems with blackspot (BS) often come along with roses, so you need to decide if you want to be spraying a fungicide every few weeks during BS season. If not, it is especially important that you pick the most disease-resistant roses possible. Good luck--and have fun picking out your Austin. Kate...See MoreSome David Austin Blooms
Comments (15)I love seeing all the blooms! It is nice to see real photos as on hang tags the colors are sometimes more brilliant and I prefer the real life ones, such as on Jude the Obscure. I love that David Austin is a Thomas Hardy fan, despite my lessening aversion to bright roses I had to get Tess of the d'Urbervilles because of the name! Teasing Georgia is one of my favorites because she is like a great big spider, putting canes out wherever she feels like! Thank you for your pictures!...See MoreDavid Austin 'The Countryman'
Comments (8)I'm so glad you posted this, and that Chris knew of a source. I've been on the wait list at DA for ages. If you check HMF, you'll see my comment on The Countryman from back in 2012. Since then, I've lost mine to rosette disease. I really need to replace it. There's nothing that smells quite like it...old rose and strawberries! John...See MoreAnn9BNCalif
