Can't choose a backsplash now, how hard is it to do on my own?
Comments (15)I also did my own backsplash. I had tiled quite a bit in the past, and my recommendation is to buy an inexpensive tile saw. I bought a Harbor Freight cheapie that I have used for several tile jobs. Planning your layout is the most important thing. I would NOT use mastic if you use a natural stone, as the oils in the mastic can stain the stone. Fortunately real thin set is a lot cheaper and is easily mixed with a drill and "egg beater" type of attachment. If you do decide to DIY there is not better place on the web than the John Bridge Tile Forum for advice. Also, don't let the counter top people talk you into putting in the 4" backsplash if you don't like the look. I know that a lot of people tile above the 4" backsplash, but to me it always looks like an afterthought. We lived with our unfinished backsplash for over a year and it wasn't a problem to leave it just painted drywall during that period of time. Actually, to be honest, I still have 2 small areas in the kitchen where I haven't done the backsplash yet, and we've been in the house for almost 5 years, but I don't suggest that you do that! Here's my tumbled copper slate backsplash:...See MoreNeed help with backsplash tile color! Can’t decide!!
Comments (2)I like your cabinets. Is that first photo your countertop? It looks very white. I like them. Do you have to chose one of those options for a backsplash? Is that your wood floor? I feel like the backsplash tiles are going to be too dark and on the gray side rather than the cream that is in your cabinets. I wish you could take a photo further away. I wonder if a lighter color closer to the color of your counter might be a better option....See MorePlease help with picking backsplash tiles color!! Can’t decide!!
Comments (11)Looking at your last photo, I'm not feeling the "countertops are too cool" reaction that grey and cream elicits. Marble has been used with cream tones for a bit of human history, and white your faux marble is faux, I love the way your choices look. Full disclosure, I have a cream and white kitchen. If you want a darker backsplash, eid6161 shows you a nice option. But, if you like the look of your last photo, and you may not, look for a tile that matches either your cabinets or your counter. Pick one. I'd choose to match the white counter, which is basically what your last photo depicts. In this cream and white kitchen, the backsplash matches the whites of the upper cabinets, while the cream counters and lower cabinets match. But they could also have let the white uppers stand alone and married everything else. (The article talks about cream and white kitchens.) https://mariakillam.com/cream-kitchen/ I'd steer away from the brown family shown on the current tileboard. Those tones are pretty muddy. I understand the instinct to repeat the wall tones, but I personally think the current contrast enhances both....See Morebacksplash help!!
Comments (1)There are literally thousands of tile options from $1 a square foot to $1000 a square foot. You have a very neutral kitchen. You could put almost anything in it. What do YOU like. Color? Texture? Shape? Do you want people to describe your kitchen as serene? Fun? Modern? Traditional? Calm? Loud? Trendy?...See Moreideas90
