Should I get a bigger rug?

I've been hearing how a living room rug should go underneath the legs of the sofa and end tables. I have a loveseat on the front left corner wall so it's not a perfect square. I have very little room between the left end table and the wall cabinet. Next to that black wall cabinet is my front door. This is the only place I can put a sofa. The right side of the room is my TV and stand. If I tried to get a bigger rug it will take up pretty much the entire room. I have the rug to break up the color of the carpet and the coffee table isn't close to the sofa because they recline. Would it look better if I got a rug that was bigger to reach just the front of the sofa? If I should get a rug, should it touch the legs of my end tables. It can't go under both legs because beside being too big, it would be so unbalanced with my loveseat which has nothing under it. What do you think?

Comments (20)You have a lovely room and it will be worth the effort to take the time to locate the right furnishings. Try Pottery Barn for to get some ideas about stylish comfort. Some of their furniture is on sale now. With down-wrapped cushions and down throw pillows, it really is possible to be comfortable without resorting to a recliner! Also, if there is a Bassett Direct near you, it would be worthwhile to visit the store, as they provide complementary design services. We had a very good experience with a store here in Florida when we were refurnishing our second home in North Carolina. I took in the blueprints and the designer drew out possible furniture arrangments and did a marvelous job assisting us with our selections. Comments (5)I agree that it isn't desirable to have a desk chair on a rug. I think if you got a new rug such that you could pull it back a little and get the front legs of the sofa on it it would look better. A rug without a border would work better. Do you have everything on an angle because that's the only way everything fits in the room? Is the doorway really wide?
