Design Dilemma living room Organizing the Home

Advice arranging furniture and items in the living room in condo

Hi I am looking for some guidance on setting up this large room. this is the first time I have tried the configuration in the pictures and I really like it. I would like to keep the couches where they are on this half of the room and my questions are what should I do with the remaining half of the room. If I need to get rid of some furniture I'm fine doing that. Also where should the lamps go I think the big lamp in the back needs to be moved somewhere else but that's the only item I have to cut the empty space in the back. Those speakers may end up going all together and possibly a desk could go in there for a little office in the corner. I will probably move the fan to above the sofas. Thank you in advance for your help.

you can't see the fan but it's on the ceiling in the half of the room with the empty space.

Bill -- I hope somebody with a sharp eye will step in with advice. I like the two couches -- why do you have all those extra chairs standing there? My first reaction is to your comment about the lamp "to cut the space." You have to get more happiness into the way you arrange. Don't "cut the space." Hang a painting. Put a solid piece of furniture there -- a good looking desk? That curvy piece of furniture on the left would look great at the end of the room with a painting hanging over it. You'd have to work out some lighting. Are you thinking about adding some colour to this room? I think you have a lot to work with and it shouldn't be a difficult project. Good luck

I can see 3 spaces you could do nicely. 1) a dining area right off the kitchen half-wall 2) with the tv over the fireplace, you'll need seating opposite. You could have a loveseat and side chairs facing that focal point. They probably would need to be flush against the wall instead of leaving a walkway behind them, unless the room is wider than it looks like. 3) In the front corner, you could have an l-shaped seating arrangement for a conversation corner, or a home office/workspace, or a piano. You wouldn't be able to see the tv from here at all.

With that location of the outlets, I'm thinking the FP end will need two sofa's facing each other and perpendicular to the FP or in an "L" with one side for a pair of chairs. The outlets will serve end tables with lamps. At the TV end do the 4-chair arrangement in front of the window. Swivels will work well and you can put TV on the same wall as the door; computer area left of the window. You may have room to bridge the gap between the two seating areas with a backless settee. If you do a rug, it will have to fit in the area left between the two outlets (unless you want to cut a hole in it! lol)

You might consider moving the sofa to be centered in front of the window and put the chair nearer the door adding a pony wall height bookshelf (with its back to the chair), with or without doors on the entry side, between the chair and the door to create an entry; perhaps something like this: http://thegamersforce.com/ikea-glass-door-bookcase/bookshelf-inspiring-low-bookcase-with-doors-bookcase-with-doors-ikea-dark-brown-bookcase-with-glass-glass-door-ikea-bookcase-singapore-ikea-glass-door-bookcase-ikea-billy-bookcase-glass-door-instruc/ A barrister style bookcase could also work. IMO if the TV is the focal point remove the FP it is not doing anything for the space and IMO a sofa and 2 chairs would be a better choice for furniture and honestly without measurements of the spaces around this it is hard to get a feel for this space. I think there is no room for a pool table since you require 5’ all around it. I find the easiest way to figure out what fits is to draw a to scale plan on graph paper then go to the drscription of the pieces ypua re planning and cut those out in the same scale adn marked the min. walkwys and paly with the pieces to see what works. in your case the pool table needs space sp start there if the pool table is a must. BTW there is no such thing as a sectional with 4 comfortable seats the only seats that are comfy are the ones with an armrest so 2 seats no matter how big the sectional is.

Have you considered a back to back sofa arrangement? Float your two sofas back to back in the center of the room so each has a similar sized area in front of it. Give each of them a coffee table. Maybe that small clover leaf table can serve as one. They usually arrive 1" above or below the sofa seat. Try the demi-lune one in your foyer. Put your hi-boy desk in the center of the back wall and hang a knock out piece of art above it. Flank it with a pair of chairs, each with its own table and a new lamp. Your floor lamp is a bit small and the table lamp too tall. Move your bar stools to a bar area, perhaps in the kitchen. Add one more chair to the foyer end of the space.
