What's up with the other forum?
Comments (43)Welcome back, Chef!:~) Congratulations on, both, your upcoming wedding and baby! Interesting how so many people (from the old days) that fled from here have been forced to return. I haven't had a lot of spare time to spend online, recently, but I did follow how you were treated over there. With friends like these... I thought that I'd made some friendships(there)and was really disturbed by what happened to me, but the way you were treated was beyond the pale. I had always thought that you all were fairly close and seemed to have a good relationship. Sad...really, really sad! (Although, fairly typical over the last several years!) If only the owner had taken care of the issue a few years ago, things might have turned out differently. It never really mattered... The moderators ruled and let their friends do whatever they wanted. You lost every dispute without even a hearing. Wrong automatically! I just didn't have it in me to keep banging my head against the wall. So... I said a few nasty things and left feeling very bitter about the place. Best thing I did! I dropped a major source of stress and got a Flickr page instead. I've made far more contacts and friends, here as well as there, since. And... All with absolutely no noticeable attitude issues! Mostly! ;~) Again... Welcome back! Scott...See MoreWhat are your other favorite forums here?
Comments (4)It depends on the season. For examples, I usually hang out here almost exclusively in winter. I peek into others once in a while. Then in spring I spend a lot more time in the bulbs & perennials, etc. Winter Sowing Seed Exchange/WS exchange Rate & Review Bulbs Perennials Geraniums Annuals Dahlias Lily Clematis Frugal Gardening Tips & Techniques Midwest Gardening Great Lakes Gardening Newbies Shrub &Trees Cutflowers Seed Savings Growing from seeds Squarefoot Gardening Soil, compost, mulch...See MoreQOTD What other forums on the Garden Web?
Comments (21)I started out on the Florida Gardening Forum, then found this one, and I spend the most time on these two. I have visited others out of curiosity: Pets, Sewing, Natives, Garden Junk, Recipes, Cookware, and some others. I think all of them are of value, but Quilting on the whole has the most supportive people who are willing to welcome newbies and share their knowledge and at the same time are comfortable in asking for advice without feeling intimidated. I posted a question once on one forum about a certain type of conifer that I had just bought and was derided for only buying the common stuff found at the big box stores so I knew right away they weren't very welcoming of non-experts' participation. So it seems that there are some forums that only encourage expert participation which is fine if you're searching for an answer to a question but not too friendly for us unwashed people who don't know everything about everything! I'm with Rosa, life is too short for grumps and trolls....See MoreWhat are some good books or other resources about terrs?
Comments (0)The internet is always a good place to check though I have found some errors in material on some sites. [Moral of the story is try to double check info whenever possible.] There doesn't seem to be much in the way of current literature out there, unfortunately. But some books that have been found by forum members are: "Terrariums & Miniature Gardens"(Sunset-1974) The gardens are mostly bottles. Good description of how to make one. "Fun with Terrarium Gardening" by:Virginie & George A. Elbert (1973) There are some dry terrariums in this book (cacti) And some ideas like a coffee table and a dining room table w/ a terrarium in it. The pictures in this book are nice, some are in color. "The Savage Garden" Considered by many to be the definitive text on growing carnivorous plants. "Tarantulas and Other Arachnids" Samuel D.Marshall ISBN# : 0-7641-1463-8 It has a really good section about building housing for tarantulas, temp., humidity, substrate, with or without plants....See Morelisaw2015 (ME)
