Kitchen space planners- need your help for tiny kitchen
Comments (12)hosenemesis, Yes, I think the alcove is where previous renters have placed a table and chairs. If my son moved the fridge there, I am thinking there would still be room for a table to the side of the fridge. (Fridge is small, and I didn't mention that for some reason the original owner built in a partial bulkhead there(about the width of a fridge), so very low, no room for a 'normal height' fridge. Present one is 60" high, that's all that would fit in there-wall is open to under stairs area in basement, so actually could be changed/raised. But don't think it is worth the effort/expense.)So, probably should have mentioned that previously, duh! ie, if there was a chair there, you would have to stoop under ceiling to get out. No, I wouldn't move a table to the end under the window. Was thinking of extending counter around. That would interfere with opening cupboard doors. Thought it would be ideal place then for Microwave, toaster oven, various appliances that daughter/potential renters would use in lieu of actual stove/oven! (though there is a full-sized oven/stove there). So, question to those of you who can visualize better than me. If, he went with wrapping the counter around under the window, what would you do with uppers between the two windows? (Maybe eliminate those altogether?) As you can see, ceilings are low in the apartment, bulkhead across where stove is. Another bulkhead is even lower in alcove just about the size of a small fridge...Other window is just to the right of the fridge. Comments (15)Classic Comfort, great job on post and pics! I am in the same situation with my master bath.. We need to remodel for ourselves now but also consider future sale in (5years?). We have a HUGE corner jacuzzi that has been used a total of 5 times in 13 years, 1 by me the rest by my grandchildren. We have no other tub in the house and our shower is currently really dated but a 2 person space with 1 shower head no body sprays. I plan to remove the tub and re tile that floor area but stub out the water supply and hide it and the drain but leave a diagram so it is accessible if a future owner wants to put in a tub. So a dedicated tub space that I will use for an exercise bike or lounge chair, there is a double sided gas fireplace next to the tub so it could become a reading nook. I have not decided. A future owner could easily put in a freestanding tub or a tub with a deck. We will then gut everything and rework shower access and bathroom access to be ADA approved for easy use of a wheelchair and curbless shower. My husband and I are fully mobile but I figure if I am remodeling and not sure what is in store better to be handicap accessible and not look like it! We are in the San Diego area. This is an expensive remodel but I don't think we can DIY with all the plumbing criteria....See MoreKitchen update due to lack of space.
Comments (10)@auntthelma, funny that you suggest that as that is exactly what our neighbours have done. But they had an extra room to play with so only went down to a 4 bedroom from a 5. @thinkdesignlive we have blackout curtains currently on the windows in the dining room and yes, we have tiles in most on the house except bedrooms and lounge room. Which we will have to replace after remodelling, I’m not a fan of them anyway as we live in a place that gets very cold in the winters. We have looked at getting retractable external blinds but due to the window shape they weren’t he solution. We are looking at adding a pergola to that area as from the window closest to the external door all the way to the laundry is a deck. Ceiling height is 2.4m. We know this will cost a pretty penny so looking at design solutions to find our ‘best guess’ budget. And no, the room @ci_names are not what we use them for, ‘lounge’ is currently a toy/games room. Family is where the tv is and the room we use the most. And room 4 is technically our study. I can post some photos tomorrow. But this is not a show house by any means so please forgive me :) @muma goose, thank you for those ideas. I hadn’t thought off adding a ‘window’ in if we blocked off that entry. Has added to the design ideas pile. That last design we have added is similar to how we use the room currently. I have a big IKEA cupboard with cake tins, appliances and the glassware display with a coffee station where you have the ‘p’ great minds :D we will change the sink to just a smaller single sink as well which will give us more bench space as well. I did want to move the oven from under bench to wall but I’m not sure what will work either. @ci_lantro we have seriously looked at the option of removing the bay windows, so that is not off the cards either. But as with everything the cost of things would be our kryptonite. What an amazing group of people you are to respond :D...See MoreKitchen lacks counter space, island is awful, need better design!
Comments (2)Thanks for providing the pictures. I also looked at your kitchen idea book. You are dreaming of storage!! Can you talk to a kitchen designer(s)? This looks like a complete down-to-the studs gut rehab....See Moreherbflavor
