Desperately need help with master bath tile design
Comments (1)I am just finishing a bathroom renovation, and I am thrilled with the way a floor similar to what you are considering has turned out. I used 8x8 honed bursa beige marble field tiles laid on the diagonal, with a mosaic border of polished Jerusalem gold and afyon sugar (white with some gold), and little 1x1 squares of the Jerusalem gold at every intersection of the beige tiles. When the tiles arrived there was less contrast than I expected between the border and the field tiles, and I panicked, but in fact the whole effect is quite beautiful and subtle, and the polished dots and border sparkle in the light and create some texture underfoot without making the whole of my little 5x8 bathroom look too busy. I have been trying to capture this in photos, but so far I haven't succeeded. (My walls are 4x12 white subways, and beige-colored paint above the wainscot on the toilet side of the room.) Good luck with your decision-making. I sympathize....See MoreHelp with my master bath renovation design
Comments (7)Hi, I just designed my new home and my master bath has a walk-in shower and we don't use a door of anykind. I love it. If your plan was mine I would consider a few changes. It would then look much like mine. Proposed changes: 1) Put your shower entry across from stool. I don't think you'll want it right by the entry. Mine is right across from the stool. 2) Put fan/heater/light fairly close to the opening. 3) Put a shower light in 4)I would consider eliminating the half walls and put a tower of storage cab. on each side of vanity. I went with just one sink because we never seem to have to be in at sink at same time and if we do we share!! I store all my towels, etc. in them. I put an outlet in each and that is where the hair blower, etc. can be plugged in behind the scenes and works out so nice. Code also required one on the outside. 5) I also put a corner little bench in mine for shaving legs, etc. Put some little corner shelves in as well with tiles cut diagonally. You could easily do that same thing. I also put a smaller soaker tub in. Is your closet for linens or clothes? I put my walk-in closet as a separate room. I am very happy with how it turned out. Not a designer, (but have had many positive comments) in my next life!! Good luck on your adventure!...See MorePlease help me choose a bathroom floor tile: marble? mosaic? (pics)
Comments (52)Dottie - I could not have done this without an educated designer - it's not just about the design choices although I would never have come up with design choices as my brain isn't hardwired in those kinds of visually imaginative ways. I can appreciate things but I don't know how to pull them together and I wouldn't have the ability to figure out where to even start in terms of the sea of vendors. I am good about researching appliances and functions but get lost in the sea of visual possibilities :-) And I can't even imagine dealing with codes and such since Los Angeles is code crazy - I wanted to move some floor electrical outlets up a bit from the floor as I found it difficult to reach them when I had some hip issues so I was thinking about for the future - I was told that if I move a plug, the whole thing has to be rewired back to the panel box. And the darn kitchen sink has to be approved by the UL LOL - who would think a kitchen sink could be dangerous....See MoreHelp me pick tile for our half bath!
Comments (7)@Mary Tillios thank you, to clarify, we're using just one type of subway tile in one bathroom. I'm debating using it at all because we already have a different type of white subway tile in another bathroom upstairs. I was wondering if it will look like the renovations were done by different homeowners or done at very different times, because the wall tile I have is the super plain, cheap white subway and the one installed in the upstairs bathroom is pricier with a undulated look to it ....See Moreblondelle
