Opinions on your questions: 1. Pocket vs. swing door: I'm not a big fan of pocket doors on bathrooms because they're more of a pain to close and lock. If you close and lock bathroom doors in your house. :-) 2. Benches are not mandatory. I prefer niches for storing shampoo and soap. Benches are usually to put your leg on when shaving. If you do have one in that corner, I'd recommend a triangular shaped one instead of square. There are pre-fab, ready-to-tile benches like this: I think the shower controls are fine where you drew them, on the bottom wall. Other thoughts: 4. code says toilet back to front should be 5' clear. Can you bump the wall a few inches to attain that? 5. I'd hinge the shower door on the other side. That will allow a towel rack on the bottom wall. You can easily fit a 48" vanity in that space. I'd definitely do it. On design, the typical "period appropriate" materials would be subway tiles in the shower and hex tiles on the floor. You could use natural marble on the floor if you wanted to splurge. I used larger hex porcelain in a powder room (not technically "period" but "in the style of"): With a neutral white/gray in the permanent stuff, you could pick your favorite splash of color for the walls. Or use that dark gray that's greenish, and use accessories, towels, etc. for the color. Your dining room is to die for, btw. Great work!

just to say your drawing is pretty good:) actually perfect for somebody like me:) if the tile and pattern are important-i'd try to save on the vanity by looking into second hand. sometimes folks sell very decent or even new stuff because they remodel for example. otherwise i think the prices you posted are very reasonable pattern is more laborious and will probably require more cuts=ordering more tile i know new vanities cost a lot..anything new wood does. so i'd shop around for that maybe, but splurge on the tile that's important to you. tiles are harder to get second hand:) lol but you can score a very nice vanity, without paying full price in Costco. of course one needs to get lucky. so decide whether you have patience for hunting like that. i got two of three vanities i needed on Craigslist..one is pretty straightforward just a big improvement from the old one, and cost me around 250 or so with nice clean countertop(looks like quartz), integrated sink and faucet. it's not 60 inch that's true..it's 37 inches. it was brand new too. another one was around the same in terms of money, it's smaller, but it's handmade and unique and i'd never be able to get something like this in the chain store. so i'm happy i took my time hunting. but i realize this Craigslist thing is not everybody's preference, for various reasons.

Contractors do not design. They build. You need an actual K&B designer. You have a very restrictive space to get all that you want without turning it into a wet room. You, and your husband especially, need to educate yourself on modern waterproofing systems and how a wet room is properly created. I offered a layout with private vanities and walk-ins but I must say, I like my first layout: - No risk of locking some out; - Long continuous counter top (I think teenage girls would prefer that over a small private vanity); - I like the deck at the end of the tub to keep toys (or all kind of different products when they get older); - All doors are 30" wide; - More storage in closet; - More spacious overall; - More natural light; - I like a J&J in this format. One teenage girl can do her make-up while the other is in the shower. A S posted the layout in her house that is similar to the one I drew and she said it works like a charm. - I think sharing the vanity is just one other way to get siblings closer and learn the values of patience, compromise and sharing. Note that a custom order of a 2'4" wide door for the bathroom's door would be a little better (even though it does not change the space in front of the toilet) and I would slide the door the other way to be able to mount a toilet paper holder on the right wall".
