Flo, I wanted to show you what I ended up doing with lighting fixtures. These are E.F.Chapman Flemish sconces and a foyer fixture that I found at Ballard Designs. The sconces came with shades, but my DH has a thing about shades and I in this application, I think he may be right. But, don't tell him:) This is the dining room fixture that I also found at Ballard Designs. It is a twisted wire style and the foyer fixture has some twisted metal, too. Here is a view of the dining room fixture from the foyer. The lighting is difficult. I tried to balance my more formal style with the rustic plantation plain style of the house. I followed your suggestion and used the dipped candle style bulbs. I really like them. Thank you for your help for talking me off the ledge. I'm getting geared up for the interior painters next week. I've declared war on the green. It's all going to be warm white. Thanks, again.

i think vanities in guest powder rooms should have a safe space for people to set down eyeglasses and rings, etc, and should have a shelf underneath or else a hook somewhere for a purse. I think guest towels should be paper and disposable, so some kind of wastebasket needs to be in there too this comes in a couple of different colors

Gorgeous house. Congrats. I would place a long sofa under the windows that are across from the fireplace. Then float two arm chairs across from that with their backs towards the fireplace. Perhaps their placement can be such that when sitting on the sofa, the fireplace looks centered between the two chairs. Not sure if I would angle the chairs in or have them with their backs simply flat to the fireplace wall. I'd get a rug to place under these seating items to clearly delineate the space. And, I'd consider what to do about the light fixture that seems to be hanging in no-man's land. This set up would allow for a clear and understandable "runway" of walking space between your front door and bedroom, and front door and entry to dining room. With your great eclectic taste, you can style the fireplace, have it still be a beautiful feature, and also have a sensible walking path and seating area.

Please think carefully about French doors. They take valuable floor space and adversely affect furniture arrangement. Do yourself a favor: use brown paper or newspaper to cut the half circle pattern opening and closing a door will take. Double that to represent the French door pattern and lay them on the floor where you plan your French doors. I agree they are elegant, but I had a pair in a breakfast room and daily resented the useless wall space on either side.
