Outside room patio ideas

We have recently moved in oir house and previous owners were doing some upgrdes but did not finish the patio outside the room. It is a master room door that opens to the backyward. We have put mesg to restrict insects inside the room but have mot done any updates yet to access the area.
Any suggestions how we can make a patio or what would be the best option for the space.
I m nit looking for very expensive ideas and also if something simple I would like to save $ here.
We have an adjoining deck which has entry from kitchen area.

Extend the wooden deck to cover the whole area.

Here are two ideas, one with grass which is easy on the budget or with pea gravel more expensive. The first one is with Adirondack chairs, these are wood but you can find plastic ones too for approx. $20 each rather than wood and I think they look great!

The second image is with a few pieces of patio furniture and a fire feature which can be as inexpensive as $30 and on up. Check out Craigslist for patio furniture and since were heading into Fall you'll probably find a good deal, good luck!

pkponder, thank you for taking a peek! It is pretty isn't it? The louvers are 2 1/2-3" and I would just spray them down with a hose, maybe even attach the window cleaning stuff to the hose for extra cleaning. I'm ADD with my house so don't see cleaning as that big a problem. I'll be having someone come out this week. ;o)

Here's a picture I found last night... not a favorite design, but an example. You'd still need a planting (or large potted plants) at either end to soften the wall, imo. A wall will give more privacy (and provide it quicker) than only shrubs. My aunt had a small courtyard, with small pond/fountain, off the breakfast room. It was a lovely little secluded spot and always seemed magical to me (as a kid).

Congratulations on your new home. Most likely there are building codes that set requirements for safety railings. Here it is 24". Like you, we didn't want an accidental fall so installed tempered glass so as not to block a view while providing protection. We installed "landing-style" steps for easier egress by senior citizens and secure transport when carrying things between the house and patio. As to building a patio, I suggest waiting a couple years for the backfill to fully settle. I've linked photos of ours Hope this helps. Good luck. Hello Ellen Chang, With entrys & windows from all directions it's a little difficult to organize furniture without interrupting circulation. You could try making a more lounge seating setup w/ chairs & side tables by the fireplace for comfy quiet time & use the den area as a more traditional living room set up. You could also try mounting the TV above the fireplace, using a couch & console table to separate it from the, 'den,' and make the den more of a catch-all space w/ a small craft table & place for shoes for when people come in off the deck. In general, try smaller pieces and round pieces when available, with multiple points of access this will protect shins from sharp edges. You can either extend the deck in wood, or finish off that section with pavers or flagstone (sometimes you can find year-end deals, or companies selling extra stone online). For the least costly option you could do gravel, something that compacts like permabark fines or decomposed granite. The thing about gravel though is you run the risk of tracking it in.

some ideas: Gravel can be substituted in place of pavers. Chipped shale lays very flat...easy walking surface, not prone to tracking into the house.
