Guest Bedroom--Please Help Me Design
Comments (12)Autumn, I would suggest that you look at nightanddayfurniture.com. You say this will be a seldom used room you don't want to put a lot of $$$ into. However, you want it to look nice. Furniture made by this company is ready to assemble (rta). I've had their Chameleon bed for about four years, and it still looks like new. At that time cost was about $550 for a double bed. It has a lot of custom options. The headboard panels pop off if you want to cover with your own fabric. The bedrail adjusts to two different heights. Other accessories include roll out under bed drawers and a fold out footboard bench. Matching nightstands, dressers, chests, mirrors, and desks are also available. I purchased less expensive wood rta under bed drawers from another company and stained them to match the bed. Two drawers were $110 and push further under so I'm not hitting my toes when making the bed in the morning. I only use a foam mattress, no box springs, and all guests have commented how well they sleep. They also have a four poster bed, rattan bed, and other styles. Unlike you, my bedroom is tiny. I used an entertainment drawer with a supporting corbel beneath from Kraftmaid on each side of the bed to allow easy access to the under bed drawers. These are in white and the bed is stained cherry. I purchased a rta cherry coffee table from Night & Day and cut up the top so the night stand tops would match the bed. The bottom line is to use your imagination to do what best meets your needs....See MoreHelp on "twins" bedroom layout! Pretty please!
Comments (8)I guess I'm too wordy because it wouldn't let me include my inspiration pics :) So here they are... Inspiration for window bed. Though I could just do a regular headboard, which would help with my desire for the beds to be matching... Layout 2 - harder to find inspiration pics because few people stray from the "headboard on a wall" idea :) Layout 3 - looking at this, I know this is out. But then again, maybe they'd like being so close... Layout 4 No specific inspiration... most have the beds side by side because the room is square. Layout 5 - definitely out, I think neither would sleep well being directly next to each other. But it's a cute idea anyway!...See MoreHelp me design a bedroom layout.
Comments (14)@partim I would normally agree about not placing the headboard in front of the window. Of course with my room being so small, it seems I only have about three positions to place the bed. On the end wall, the wall aligned with the door, or the wall with the window. I believe the idea of placing the head of my bed on the wall with the door can be eliminated. Primarily due to the fact that if I center the bed on that wall, then I would have to offset the TV to one side of the window. This seems like it would bring a sense of asymmetry into the room. Which I really don't like the sense of asymmetry. So, at least in my opinion, there are only two options for bed placement. The window wall or the end wall. If I place the bed on the end wall, then I have an issue with TV placement. If I place the bed on the window wall then I might run into an issue with covering up the window. What would everyone think if I did place the bed on the window wall, but had a lower platform bed? Perhaps something that would not be high enough to cover any of the window. Let me know your thoughts....See Morelayout/design help needed for teen boy bedroom
Comments (12)what a great space for him. so many ideas. first thing I'd do is some built-ins in some of those nooks. simple plywood, paint. For books, video games, collections, etc. that inset next to the J would be the perfect spot for a built in bookcase. Look at Ikea hacks, or DIY inset bookcase tutorials. Ikea Billy Bookcasehack: https://food52.com/blog/25110-best-ikea-billy-bookcase-hacks how about a mural (peel and stick) of some sort? you could do it on the wall or on that sloped ceiling above his bed. bring in some sstring lights and drape them from wall to wall do a lower bed like this, back in that corner, string the lights around it, and remove that nightstand, replace w/a cute table. or something like this platform style bed. put on a regular mattress or a futon mattress. do a diff light. remove that futon across from it and bring in a low-boy dresser of some type. bring in lots of thin, cotton dhurrie rugs you could do a roman clay treatment on the wall and paint a dark color. maybe bring in some faux beams from side to side drape the lights over those: for the lower areas that are wasted space, do something like these low open shelf cubbies (enlarge this pic to see them) decor ideas, lighting, bean bags, get some cheap pine tongue and groove flooring (lumber liquidators) and install it on one wall, or on one of the angled ceilings, or around the desk area, behind the sofa, etc what's under that carpet? some type of wood? you could paint it w/porch paint and thrown down a bunch of cool looking rugs. maybe redo the desk w/Ikea desk hacks. you could get a solid piece of butcher block (or a remnant), span it to fit across the entire area under the window, (use cleats to get it to 'float') and then some pull out ikea drawers. or something like this gray one. maybe hang a light directly over the desk, or get a desk light remove that heavy blue drape, and do an inset window blind. I did this black cellular blind on my sons bedroom window. If you get the blackout option, you won't need the heavy drape to block out the light. something liek this. it's less bulky looking, the desk looks better, (frame out the window w/white trim if you're using a dark shade), and the pendant light gives overhead light in that dark space....See MoreRonit
