How are your painting skills? I lived for a few years in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and there people would use paint to add details in trompe l'oeil on the outsides of their homes. So a newer home such as yours might appear to have some peeling plaster with the bricks showing through to give it an older look, or you could make your garage doors resemble those that you posted above, with painted-on windows, panels, and hardware. Add some functioning shutters (not the plastic ones you mount to the wall, but ones wide enough to cover the windows they are on), some trellises, and other appropriate real items, and you can get the look without tearing your house apart! See the murals on the Saint-Georges Theatre in the link below. The before and after pictures are not to be believed. Have you considered a standing-seam metal roof for your replacement? Sherry, I know! the brick no longer looks orange and weird to me. We didn't even consider painting the brick. We bought a four-sides brick house so it would be lower maintenance. The trim painting really did the trick as far as making the brick, porch, and roof all blend together better. It really is surprising how just changing that one color seemed to change all of the different colors.

Instead of replacing the black shutters, you could leave them off entirely and create a trim color a different way: You might consider painting your fascia and gutter and soffit and window frames and door frames a dark color you like and then painting the rest of the siding all one color -- a different, slightly lighter shade of the SAME color rather than inserting white or off white to highlight the height of the windows.

Then you can start narrowing down your favorite ideas. Also — there are lots of talented paint experts here, but you’ll need to post pictures of your rooms, of course.
