Should I cover my new hardwoods with a rug?
Comments (61)I remember when you got those new sofas and how much I loved them. Now, with your beautiful wood flooring, everything is looking super! I feel a rug would go nicely, there. You have already received lots of good advice & suggestions from other posters. I'll throw in another option for you to consider. For my home, I've used washable Latex backed rugs from JCPenney. I know many people will cringe at the mention of Latex backing in contact with wood floors. I've heard that some factory pre-finished floors will be fine with these (Latex backed) types of rugs. I'm keeping a close eye as the months go by and so far (it's been 1 year), all is good. My floors are engineered wood by Lauzon. These rugs are not as plush as other more expensive rugs, but they are fine for me. I have not had the need to wash them, yet. When I do, I'll try the smaller one (5'x8' family room) first and see how it goes. I'll use a commercial front load "mega capacity" washer & then hang to dry. The 8 x 10 living room may just need to be washed by hand/hose in the backyard one sunny day. If you have a JC Penney near by, rugs can be returned if you don't like them. Also, don't pay full price! JCP always has sales. My 5 x 8 Double Border rug was $170, the 8x10 Majestic Scroll was $220 (including tax & free ship). The fibers are Nylon and they are made in the U.S.A. These rugs are not absorbing dirt hardly at all. My Olefin fiber rug in the entry (ordered from an online rug store) became dirty looking after only 3 months : ( I also do not like the feel of the Olefin rug. Pictured below is the 8 x 10 JCPenney Majestic Scroll rug (color: Sand) in my living room. I don't have a coffee table or ottoman, yet. Comments (24)I think 2x3 will be too small. The door is 36". Here is a pic of a cheapo LNT rug that is 24x44. I don't think I'd want it any smaller. I think I'll check Tuesday Morning. I've only seen smaller rugs there--maybe I'll get lucky. Or at least I can get a better feel for what works colorwise--as I'm kinda stumped on this one situated as it is between two other rugs, one of which is a real beauty....See MoreNeed advice on Karastan rugs. Comments (7)I would have said exactly what dee said, but I've been stripping wallpaper in my my upstairs bathroom. They're all nice, although mine are all the older, thicker ones, but I love the English Manor styles! I see they are making some inexpensive poly ones now, that I haven't seen in person, but they are described as being made of this - "If you want the cleanest, most sustainable carpet for your home, opt for EverStrand.® This premium PET polyester fiber is thoroughly purified for the cleanest strand and easy to keep clean with advanced soil and stain protection. And, with up to 100% recycled content, it's the world's most sustainable carpet." Comments (14)@Brianne Gandy - thanks for picture which clarifies things. Yes to your light placements & maybe add one at the inside corner of garage & house. I’d say no to shiplap on that section between windows but yes to some kind of metal wall hanging there. At 6’ wide, there’s enough room for 2 chairs - even rocking chairs - with a small table between them. If the section of pavers under the windows is 6’ wide, looks like section along garage is at least 12’ wide? My thought is to draw an imaginary line from the right edge of the window at left of door over to garage wall. See if that triangular space is large enough to place a circular table - larger than a bistro table size- with 4 chairs around it. This will give you the 2 seating areas you want with 2 very different looks. Place at least 3 large planters with evergreen plantings in them along the garage wall from the garage corner to edge of imaginary triangle space. You’ll need to water year round as under the eves so no rain. I have big saucers on my big pots to catch water & not have it all over pavers. I also have my large pots on plant caddies so I can easily move them when needed. Place 2 more large pots, one at right of front door, the other one at far end of narrow side of pavers to right of chairs. Maybe put very colorful flowering plants in those two. Last, but certainly just as important, remove the grass from left corner of pavers at garage end & all the way up past front of tree & to right corner of house. Fill this planting bed with flowering shrubs & evergreens. Lay a flagstone path through the bed from about the left corner of pavers over to the sitting area btween the two windows. This connects one end of pavers to the other & gives another nice option for how to walk over to that area. If you’re not an experienced gardner, get design help from local nursery. Having that planting bed will add huge curb appeal to your nice home....See MoreMy3dogs ME zone 5A
