Thanks for the kind words, our place is still in progress but we love it so far. I love having the mudroom bench! The paint color used in all the rooms is SW #7533 Khaki Shade. The laundry room is SW #7532 Urban Putty one shade lighter than the khaki shade. Your home has great potential with just some paint and furniture arranging. I do not think drapes to the ceiling would work, that would draw your eye up to the height of the room. I like what you have on the dining window but you could also use 2 simple roman shades on the dining window to add some texture and color. If you use a more neutral colored curtain panel on the sliding door with your current rod that would look nice. Try getting panels that blend with the paint color you choose. I love your fireplace and armoire is it possible to use the armoire for the tv instead of the table its on? I also have a westie she seems to get in my photos also :) If you put a large area rug down and pull the furniture away from the wall and arrange it around the fireplace that will ground the space. Try putting the couch across from the fireplace and a chair on each side and the Ottoman as a coffee table with a tray and books on it. Add a nice neutral area rug. Put one of the chairs where the tv is and the other facing the sliding door. I think the large wall hanging might look nice in the dining area. Hi becca, I too am one who hates hunting camo. That being said, I come from a family of men who love to hunt. We also bleed purple and gold (LSU) so I combined the two feels to give him a true Louisiana boys room with a gentleman's touch while not being trendy. Again not sure if your talking Mossy Oak or Desert Storm, but this what I did in my son's room in our old home. I painted the room BM Woodstock Tan (a deep sort of brown). I bought a duvet and had a cover made from an army green colored cordouroy (sp) with wooden buttons for the enclosure (also had a sham made). I used RL leopard sheets on the bed with the Mossy Oak camo panels on the windows. What I didn't account for when making the duvet cover was the weight of the cordouroy (it is really heavy) nice in the winter, but I take it off in the summer and just use the white duvet. It lightens things up a bit (can get dirty if not careful). Also, I swap out the camo panels in the summer for white ones as well. The other camo accent that I had in that room was a portrait of him in camo with his gun from my father sitting on an old shotgun shell box. His furniture is different from that you will have as his is all antique from my grandmother's, but I am sure this can be retrofitted to match your furniture. The great thing about these colors is that they are pretty neutral so accent colors stand out well. Like the purple and gold LSU newsprints that I have matted in purple in his room and other LSU paraphanalia. Red also looks good against these colors. All of these colors and patterns may sound a bit busy, but used properly they compliment each other really well. We have since moved from this home, but I continue to use variations of this since it is something that works well with all ages and can grow with them. Hmm. I think it is a way cool idea for window treatments, and maybe hung in front of the closet doors. Not so sure that I see it sewn over the duvet. I think it would catch on everything - teenage big feet, zipper pulls on hoodies, edges of books being read on the bed, etc. I really think the camo bedding is the better solution. Down the line you simply get a different duvet to cover up the camo. Or, go with orange, which is the 'compliment' used with camo frequently.

Everybody gave such good advice..I can only add that my teen became much happier in her room when we painted it dark(different color though..purplish brown..or brownish purple?))..she did have white furnishings, and it looked pretty bland before I must say, but the moment we painted it, everything popped up so nicely against dark background, everything suddenly made more sense and had more character. Of course as other posters have said already, light/white furnishings and glittery elements will help to pull off that look. Do tone your ceiling with a bit of a wall color, or else it would look strange. Good luck, and looking forward to these pictures!
