I need help accessorizing fireplace cabinets----pics---
Comments (11)Thank goodness for the home decorating forum. This site has been very helpful to me also. I have become much better at accessorizing over the years, because of looking at all sorts of books and magazines, and there are quite a few sites that will teach you the in's and out's of accessorizing (if you believe there's such a thing). What it does, it provides you with a basic understanding of tablescaping, or accessorizing. I feel it has helped me develop an eye for what works, and what doesn't. Just play with what you have until you feel good with what you've come up with. Sometimes you come up with something you like on the first try. Sometimes you have to just give up for the time being....See Morehelp I have many rooms I need to paint...need help choosing color
Comments (2)hermustangs, if you'll read the "new to GW" thread below on this page (or if it's left this page by the time you read this, search for it) you'll find explicit instructions on how to post photos; very easy to do. I think you'll get many more responses if you include photos. I'm not good enough with colors personally to try to answer your questions without seeing the rooms. Good luck!...See MoreI need help finishing my new fireplace!
Comments (11)I think you are on the right track here. You have the beginnings of a beautiful room. Like everyone else mentioned, wrap the mantle completely around the fireplace. I like the colour of your brick so I wouldn't paint it. I would continue the vertical shiplap across that entire wall. Also, I find the light coloured hearth looks odd, I would replace with a single piece of charcoal coloured stone. The dark colour will ground the fireplace. On either side of your fireplace, I would add built-in, wall to wall glass door cabinets that are almost the same height as your mantle. Add big framed prints above the cabinets and then pull your chairs into the room more. Your current room has a lot of small items, like vases and tables and decor. I would simplify and remove all of these. Keep the basket with you beautiful kitty cats though. They are adorbs....See MoreI need help picking pieces for this fireplace mantle
Comments (15)None of these mantels shown in previous examples will work as depicted because your mantel will be much higher due to the way the fireplace is designed. So I do not see being able to use a mantel as an option. Cover it all with stone floor to ceiling like the example below: This mockup shows your existing stone floor to ceiling, which you probably won't be able to match. So you may need to remove all the stone and start over. But you can cover the black metal box more like you see here. Any mantle would likely need to be about 12" above that top vent to meet code, which is just too high for a mantel. The current mantel is not designed properly and appears to be a stock size shelf someone just hung. It is also likely not up to code. If you could use a mantel, it should wrap around the fireplace. But again, it will be too high....See MoreRelated Professionals
