It sure is a lot of work. Little by little, you’ll get it done. Be careful lifting boxes, etc. I hope you like your new place.

I get that it’s a lot of work and that part just plain sucks...but...you’re moving for a reason, something is making you unhappy and the new place will hopefully free you from that. It’s an opportunity to thin things out and start fresh. I’m a Navy Brat and my mother used to treat moving as an opportunity for new adventures. I guess that stuck.

Was this apartment supposed to be temporary? i remember you moving after the flood to this place.

Eld it was not meant to be temporary, however after I moved I quit driving because of my vision issues and there is no easy way to visit friends/family now. I will be much closer to everyone in my new place.

Lukk, a move is an opportunity for adventure, that is a good way to look at it. But the actual process is still not fun, all that packing, bleh.

Yes, I just moved and hear your angst. I'd be hard put to want to move again...right away. In this last move, we moved into a temporary apartment....shopped for a house, then moved again. So we moved twice!!!

Yes....moving got me to a better place....but I did make a few mistakes in this move.

I also hate moving. I have long thought they should make offenders doing public service work as movers, because to me that is WAY worse than picking up trash.

I don't envy you the process. I hope after all is said and done, you will be happy in your new location.

Cooper, I did much research prior to picking a moving company because there are many scammers out there. Some will load their truck and then, having your stuff hostage, will demand more $. Others will flat out steal your stuff. Some will handle your things carelessly, and in so doing damage the walls of the place you are moving from. So one has to be careful of who moves your stuff. Although there are remedies, I feel an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Moving here, my son and I did it ourselves to save costs. This time, I found a good moving company so all I need to do is pack. (I know, and here I am complaining about that, but it IS an aggravation).

Packing is the pits.... but unpacking. THAT is a chore in itself!

We used to move a lot both as a kid and after I got married. The thing I learned is to pack the boxes for your new place and pack one or two boxes for open first!

You have my full sympathy. I have moved and moved in my lifetime, and I

swear I will not move again until the Good Lord does it for me. ;) (knocking

This is an interesting topic to ponder, not only from my own point of view but everyone else's, as well.

I've always looked at moving as a time for opportunity, as well. Even the packing aspect can be freeing, decisions are easily made about what to cull.

I love setting up a new household, meeting neighbors, and exploring my corner of the world. I've moved 19 times since childhood, all but one as an adult.

I have never had to leave a home under severe duress as some here have, losing everything and having to start all over again. Nor have I moved due to physical problems, what a stress that must be.

Ugh, I hate moving. We moved from Ohio to Arizona after living in Ohio for 12 years. I can’t say I like Arizona, but my husband had a job opportunity. Packing everything up and moving across the country in a month was a lot. All our family is back in Ohio, so we visit every Christmas.

We've moved several times for jobs. Not fun, but there has always been some sort of advantage to the move. Yours is being closer to family . I hope the transition goes well for you.

It'll be worth it to be closer to friends and family. It is a big job, though.

Make your bed in the new place first thing. Then, when you run out of steam, it’s ready for you ;-)

The last time we moved was 25 years ago and I'm still wondering what happened to the box that contained the salt shaker/pepper grinder set, the shrimp peeler thingy and a couple of other kitchen gadgets. Darn it, I really liked the salt/pepper set!

Besides moving personally, I've been involved in some office/work moves. One thing I found really helpful is to set up a moving box that contains scissors, tape, pens/markers, post it notes, note pad, tape measure, box cutter, stapler and paper clips. That box stays next to your side at all times and when it's time to go, it goes in the car with you to the new place.

I think I'm dreading it. We plan to sell in a year or so, and move to a smaller place. We've been here 24 years, so lots to cull through. I could be through my stuff in a week. DH, it'll take a year!!!

We are in the process of moving. We are renovating our home and rented an apartment nearby for 3 months to get out of the way. It's been super stressful as we have had to pack a 5 bedroom house in 6 days. Almost done! Movers come on Monday. I started out so well with organizing and purging things but at this point, anything not nailed down is tossed into a box to deal with when we move back!

When we were having the home inspection on our current home while my husband ran around with the inspector my son in law and i measured every room and made a diagram of where the doors and window were. I found a program for furniture placement, put in the room size and figured out my furniture placement for every room and printed it out. I placed the print out on the wall of the room on moving day. I assigned a color to every room. When I packed a box I color coded the box, marked which room it was to be placed in and a short list of what was in the box. I put on the door of the room the color and the name of the room. The movers said it was the most organized move they have done. No asking where a box belonged or where to place the furniture. They gave me money back because the move took a lot less time than they expected.

I hope everything is going to go smoothly and that you will be very happy in your new place. Seeing how often some of you have moved is boggling my mind. I moved out of my childhood home into an apartment as soon as I could afford it. Moved into a fixer upper 3 years later. As soon as this was almost finished (loved that house) we moved to the US. This was a stressful one. We had a nine month old, a young dog and a rabbit. Our furniture and most of our other stuff left 8 weeks before us on a container ship. It also arrived 2 weeks after us. Been in the same place now for 26 years.
