Comments (5)I really think that Pattyrocks has the wrong forum. It sounds like a general course where they will be growing ornamental annuals and vegetable plants. She should post this query on the professionals forum. I assume she is looking to start petunias & geraniums. 116 days is not even enough time to produce native plugs for the commercial trade. Delicate, micropropagated liners from a TC lab will take at least 12 months. Most temperate trees/shrubs have seed sown around October, stratify over winter and germinate in April/May....See MoreGoing Native
Comments (18)Jerlis, I agree with Matt's explanation that small amounts of shallow watering are not as good for a plant as less-frequent deep watering. When you give plants 'just a squirt' of water, you're training the roots to stay very close to the surface of the soil which makes them vulnerable to drought stress/death. Basket of Gold needs well-draining soil and although it is a full-sun plant in many areas, it does better in our climate if it gets some shade. (That's true of many 'full sun' plants....full sun in a very hot climate is much harder on plants than full sun in milder climates.) Any perennial you plant will need consistent watering until it has established a good root system. Also, any plant that is put into the ground in summer may struggle. It is better to plant in fall or spring so the plants have time to adjust to being transplanted and to form a larger root system before they have to start dealing with the excessively hot temperatures here. Comments (46)Well, whether or not they come back l plan on buying about 6 new Cardinal flowers at the upcoming native plant sale, and judging from last year there should be an abundance of L. siphiticas emerging in the garden this year. It's good to roll with what's going on and keep enjoying the marvelous things happening in the plant world. There are a lot of really cool plants that don't have any problem coming back. I had a Dutchmans Briches plant pop up where none were ever planted and I'm thinking it came from a seed that was decades old from a time when they grew in my neighborhood before it was "developed". Comments (315)Okay, I feel much better now! I had a great time with Tabitha and Myrna, more about that later. And the trip home thro Toledo went well, mainly because I bypassed Toledo all together and took the long way home. Anything to save stress and anxiety! I have only done a cursory look thro the posts, but want to address lots of them at some point before the month is over. So much interesting apple stuff! Ladies, you can take a break from posting "Apples of the Day" if you'd like, until Monday! Happy Weekend! Katie, thank you so much for posting the Bingo words for me, very much appreciate it! Margo, I got your email, glad you enjoyed the card! Jeanne, I don't know how that happened, the card arriving on the first day of Autumn. I mailed them all on Monday, as I was leaving. Glad you all enjoyed them! I had a great time creating them! Annie, did I forget to put the applebutter recipes in your package? Glad you liked it, but the applebutter was to be used with the recipes. Drat. Let me know. I totaled up the points from the bingo words for the past 3 days and here's what we ended up with: The Crisps garnered 7 points and the Macs got two. I'll post a points update tomorrow afternoon, along with the list of who sent and who received, and all the rest of the catching up! And last, but definitely not the least - Erica, where did you find that book? It was perfect! Ladies, I opened my package from Erica tonight, and she sent me a recipe book called, can you believe this, "An Apple A Day"! Unbelievable! It has 365 recipes, enough for a whole year. Erica, you nailed it with this! Good job! She also sent a nice Appley note and 3 packs of seeds, one tithonia and two lantanas. Thank you, Thank you! I'm heading for bed, talk to ya all tomorrow! Shirley!...See MoreUser
