Sounds like you've got things under control...in line for bringing your plant in the house (I don't have mine in the house). It has been my experience that if you have regular soil/dirt, it will attract ants, worms & rollypolys to make their homes. Yes, ants like to farm pests (which you may or may not have). As for your little red dot...I believe that is a weed seed, coming off a plant that pops & spits these when touched/disturbed. I had a bunch of these in my grass & would find them on me, the dogs, the plants after having done some gardening. Not to worry-just pull out the weed (if others seeded) if it grows! Good advice from Jeff for acclimating your plant.

The first plant is, I'm pretty sure, an Agave filifera (check the link). The bug-infested pair is a Portulacaria afra (elephant bush), I think, on the left, and I can't really figure out the one on the right from those pictures. Some kind of Kalanchoe, or Crassula? Don't beat yourself up about the bugs. It happens. You'll look more closely next time. As far as whether to separate: I would separate them, on the theory that if one is more easily cured than the other, then I can cut my losses and at least save the easy one. (The counter-argument is that plants that are already stressed by bugs maybe don't need the additional stress of being repotted. Use your best judgment, or wait for other people to jump in here.) I have no experience with the Portulacaria (if that is in fact what it is), though I know they're supposed to be relatively slow growers. So even if you could get a start from a leaf or a tip cutting, it might grow too slowly to be worthwhile (especially since you can probably go back to Lowe's in six weeks and get a brand new one for $3). Ants aren't green. And they don't infest plants. More likely you have aphids. Wash them off, and repeat every several days until no more return.

While I have no objection to the spraying of various things to discourage mold, you should be aware that mold growing on the soil is a good indication that the soil is too wet. Especially for a jade plant, wet soil = dead plant!. Succulents, of which jade plant is one, need for their potting soil to get dry, all the way to the bottom of the pot, between waterings. This will also discourage thingies that are living on the soil. If you can learn to test the soil moisture before you water, you'll have gone a long way toward being a successful plant person. You can test the soil with an electronic moisture meter (be aware that they can easily stop working) or a bamboo skewer, even a pencil. You push these last two into the soil, then pull up the tester, and run it between your fingers - it should feel dry. Don't water until the tester is dry (or reads dry if its electronic.) When you do water, water plenty, allowing it to run freely out the drainage holes. As far as "mold" on the leaves or stems of the plants, if you see it, it's not mold, it's mealy bug. You can wipe them away with a Q-tip dipped in alcohol, as many people recommend. Be aware that if you are seeing them, there are probably dozens that are too tiny to see, hidden in the crevices of the plant. You'll need to spray the plant with a mixture of soap and water - best to use a pure soap, such as castile, or insecticidal soap. Mix 1 teaspoon into 2 cups of water. You can add a little vegetable oil (1/2 teaspoon) and/or alcohol (1/2 teaspoon). Actually, people use these ingredients in many different ratios and formulations. The important thing is to spray the plant once a week for 4 weeks - this makes sure you kill all the crawlers as they hatch, but before they can lay more eggs.
