Finally Finished quilt

I delivered the quilt today to my friend who is going through cancer treatments. He was very happy with it. Since he started chemo last December, he said he is freezing all the time. I used my double needed to go through all the seams. I like how that came out.

Oh...and this pattern was from Missouri Star called the Quartered Stripes Quilt. I didn't like it when I first started making it, but once I got the borders on, it really grew on me.

I made that one, too. It didn't grow on me. I even tried sashing it. When I measured it and figured it would cost $160.00 to get it finished, it landed in the UFO pile.

I like yours more than mine, though. Your's looks appropriate for a man.

Thanks everyone for your comments. There are a lot of HST in the quilt. I made up little sections and joined then together into bigger squares, then into the block. Lots of cutting out and checking for correct colour placement. Yes, they do love the quilt - even the reverse "plain" side. They intend using the reverse side in Winter and the patterned side in Summer. Now my daughter & her fiance have chosen a quilt for me to do for them this year. Fortunately it is much easier to do, so shouldn't take as long to complete. They have chosen black & white, maybe with a little red, for their colours. I've always wanted to use these colours, so I'm really happy to finally be using them. Kristene.

Nice job. Pink isn't my color but it goes well in this pattern and turned out great. I just finished a quilt about that size (a bit narrower) and stitched in the ditch and agree works well side to side and diagonally. I have never tried doing the 2 pc. technique but would like to try some day. I have to put the binding on tomorrow and I almost always hand st. to the back unless it may be a kids quilt that is going to take a beating. TFS Jayne

Eek! (yes, that was a squeak and it's the noise I made when I read that some of you are going to make this quilt.) Just kidding - it really shouldn't be a hard quilt to make, I just made it a lot more difficult than it should be. Yes, I assume Wonder Under would help prevent the fraying, but I have not used Wonder Under very much, so I'm just assuming. Also, the first time I stitched the circles down I used a fairly small zigzag and I was trying to catch part of the circle and part of the background in every stitch. The second time around I used a wider zigzag and I was almost completely on the circle, with very little thread on the background. I realized that I forgot to give credit to the tutorial that I used. Okay, I am going to sew today! Yesterday we decided to go up to St. Augustine. We hadn't been up there in several years. We wandered around the historic area, had lunch at a Cuban café, then went to the lighthouse. We are both FL natives but had never been to the St. Augustine light! It was really nice! We drove home down A1A and stopped for some great BBQ on the way home. The weather was perfect - temp in the low 70s and beautiful clear, blue sky. It was a great day! Donna

I remember you posting about this before. I like how yours came out. I made one, too and it's not one of my faves but I did finish it. I keep it in the spare bedroom. It's a smaller quilt, best used as a quick nap cover-up.

Isn't that match of stripes in a square like that a variation on the god's eye? I did blocks like that once, and they turned out pretty good, but it was a bit stressful lining up the stripes, lol. You did a fantastic job!

I love it and the idea/thought behind it. I'm 11 years out from treatment and keep my office so hot staff doesn't want to come in for meetings. I live in Texas and am always cold.

Thank you, everyone. If you watch the video from Missouri Star, you'll see the cool way to cut the fabric so the stripes just match up naturally. That wasn't really a problem. I first started making it for a short friend. When I decided to make it for Gary, I decided it needed another row, since he is much taller. Either I was sloppy or the scraps just weren't able to line up the same way, as the last row stripes do not line up quite as well. I was really down to the last of the fabric and one block was just too small to force in. I took out the seams, cut each side back a bit and took scraps and added a piece to each side. Then mitered the corners again and it worked.

Not sure I'll ever make another once of these, but I'm sure glad it's finished!

Great quilt, Bev. I am sure it took lots of time matching all those stripes - not sure I have the patience for that!
