1960's Colonial Exterior Remodel - How would you update this look?
Comments (13)Use the budget now to put get a landscape plan, and plan the trees and shrubs as soon as you can in your climate. The trees and shrubs are the only improvement that gets better (larger) every year on its own, so it's the first thing that should go in. You already have a good start although you may prefer a more natural look in your shrubs, rather than those clipped ball shapes. Hardscape (walkways etc.) can go in after the plants. Nice house. Is it brick all around or just at the front? I'm not a fan of the white bricks in your mix. I would paint or stain them a darker color to blend in. Your garage should be a color closer to the brick. If the front door is wood, don't paint it....See More1960s ranch style exterior update
Comments (7)i like the first pic Celery posted. With the panels painted to closely match the brick. A question...do you intend on keeping the blinds closed on the two rooms on the right side? The white of them, compared to the dark glass of the open windows on the left is off. I wonder how your house would look with all the windows (with or without shades) the same basic color. When the window shades are unapplied, i do like how the windows look with the roofing. And i think if you were to go with that slate gray theme a little bit more it could look pretty special. Nice dark green ...even blue-tone shubbery/planting would finish that look....See MoreFacade Update: 1960s suburban colonial
Comments (9)Thank you for the feedback about the roofline and for the porch inspiration. @bpath we could vault the ceiling in the addition. We could have the addition project out as far as the garage does, but I would prefer not to create a “snout” and there is still plenty of space to extend towards the rear....See More1960s colonial exterior siding/porch design update
Comments (2)I would do board and batten on the top same as the side. Stain the brick not paint it. pull out that giant shrub by the garage, extend and wrap the porch around to the side. add the curves into the landscape not the porch. I would first think about what color to stain the brick and then build from there. https://www.houzz.com/discussions/5203840/1960-s-colonial-exterior-remodel-how-would-you-update-this-look https://www.americanbrickstaining.com/2017/08/02/important-differences-painting-staining-brick/...See Moremramsey
