Thank you, I think..... The rug has gone. I don't like white but do like lighter colors. So after spending several hours - many hours - trolling online photos of charcoal gray couches/wall colors, I am understanding your point and see that you are right. Is there a way to use a white-ish paint and still get a cozy feel? I do not like modern or contemporary and that's what white walls reminds me of. Thank you!!

Hello friends. I am afraid I need your help once again! We have finally settled on a new sofa, accent chairs and the place we are getting all of this from has agreed to also throw in a rug for us if I happen to like one from their suppliers. I fell in love with a rug they have as well as accent pillows I think will match well. We have also decided on the color of the accent chairs and the model of the sofa. My issue : I CANNOT decide on a sofa color!!! Everyone is telling me to do light grey but I am afraid it won't go with the rug I like. I am swayed towards a white sofa (it is more off white, I will post a picture of the swatch bellow) in order to flow with my chairs and everything else. I had spoken to the designer who did our plan and she said I can go with a white sofa no problem. Everyone is saying do light grey. I know I can pick another rug but I am SO In love with the one I have chosen and I think it will make the space... Can anyone advise me on what to do? I do like a light grey sofa but I also really like the colors in the rug...We have to order this week in order to make it in time for Christmas and I am very undecided. You have all been so helpful and if you aren't utterly sick of me, I would appreciate the advice! Your space already looks really nice! Couple of suggestions: Put a console under the TV. Something narrow to ground it so it isn't floating / looming on the wall. Replace the chair with one or two that have a style more consistent with the contemporary sofa. Put another console table behind the sofa so that you're not looking at the back of the sofa. A larger area rug that can go under the sectional and under the chair (or chairs if you do two) would probably bring the space together better. Though I do really like the cowhide rug you have.

Thank you Cecilia. I appreciate your suggestions. I've had my eye on a few Ruggable rugs for a while, similar color scheme to like what you showed, although my style is more toward world/global. I've got a few Middle Eastern and African textiles throughout the house. And some trinkets from my travels. I'm thinking the next rug will need to be 9x12 since I'm trying to use the whole room, and maybe less geometrical than the current one? I'm also realizing that rug positioning makes a HUGE difference in how the room feels. I've been so tired hauling sectional pieces all week that I've been lazy about positioning the rug, but It makes a world of difference. Hi Decoenthusiaste. I tried floating it in the center yesterday, but I could only figure out how to fit 3 pieces in that layout. I plan to bring the 4th piece into the house this weekend to fiddle around with it. The other struggle with that is how to get a lamp up close to the sofa for reading. I do like any L shape, since it's so comfortable :) Would you still put the FP/TV on that dining room wall if spaced out from the wall (a bit like my 3rd layout photo, but sofa out from the wall?) I agree with you that my favorite place for FP/TV is on the dining room wall. I just haven't figured out how to incorporate the whole room that way, because that brings all of the attention to that larger section of the room, and ignores section from entrance--dining room. Here is how I've currently arranged the room, with the 4th piece photoshopped in. The 4th piece could probably also be separated and roated perpendicular to the rest of the sofa. It actually is plenty of seating because it's usually just me and my BF anyway, and at least a sectional can form an L shape which is nice for conversation. My previous sofa only sat 3 people in a row. I never have big gatherings. I mostly just want a comfortable place to watch TV and read, and this sectional fits the bill perfectly. I love it. Just trying to determine the best layout, and whether the 4th piece is useful, or if I should exchange it for a different piece from the model. I also don't mind semi-blocking the entrance to the study. I'm the only one who uses that room because I work from home, and I'm able to access it through my bedroom, which has another doorway toward the main part of the house. Old house. Old style :)
