Light grays really work well. I used this in our last house when my 2 boys shared a room. They were 6 and 4 at the time. It was an east facing room so it got tons of morning light. It's so neutral you can basically use any colors in there, although I preferred to use navy, red and kelly greens as the main accent colors. Mostly because I had space themed quilts with these colors. I don't have a color name, I mixed my own gray. I'd had a very dark gray oops paint I picked up for $5 and mixed it with white until I got a shade I could live with. Like you, the room was previously occuppied by a girl. It was a nursery and it was painted Winnie the Pooh Honey Pot Yellow. I don't know your space, but Austere and Escape read very green to me. Is that the undertone you're looking for? Personally, I tend to go for the lighter, warmer grays or barely there. I really like Agreeable Gray SW 7029. A new color for 2011 (I think) that's not in my deck is SW 0055 Light French Gray, it looks pretty online, not so sure about in person. Maybe take a look at Restoration Hardware's Pale Silver. Some of my favorite bloggers from younghouselove.com just did their family room in a very pale gray. They used BM Moonshine 2140-60 mixed in Olympic No-VOC paint. Google gray bedrooms or just rooms and there's a lot that comes up. The thing I love about SW, is they do the large sample pots vs BM's itty bitty ones (off the rack, they'll mix bigger ones). I like that even though a color doesn't work out in one room, you have enough in the nearly quart sized can to check it out in other rooms. Try painting big foam core boards with your colors. Don't forget to write the color on the back. That way you can move it around the room to see how the light affects the colors throughout the day. Also, you can re-use the boards for another room or pass them on to friends/family when they admire your awesome room! Good luck!

dekeoboe - thanks for the heads up about the owl! I went to Hallmark today and got the last one. Knock on wood - the 'L' word is really on my side so far w/ this room! The owl was 50% off! And the paint guy at ACE clearly didn't hear me when I said I wanted it mixed in the Essence paint as it is only $14.99 per gallon. I got 2 gallons for both DD's room and mine. I almost fell over when the cashier said $48! He mixed the wrong brand and it turned out that they were out of Essence so he gave me their top of the line paint for $14.99/ gallon! Sue - those alphabet fairies are just perfect! Polly - that chandy is so sweet! I wanted to name DD Penelope but DH nixed that. I really like the bunny lamp and I may have to start trolling around e-bay for something similar. Hellokitty - I was thinking of one or two small pillows - I really like the heart ones that Polly got at IKEA. I have a sweet little white one that I picked up a few months ago that has the palest of pale pink edging and is embroidered w/ 'P.S. I love you' in the same shade of pink. It's so pale you almost don't even notice it. I thought maybe a great raspberry plaid for the rocker seat. I started painting the dresser about 30 minutes ago in SW Berry Bush. I think that the deeper raspberry tones w/ that wall color are edgey but still sweet. Igloo - Maybe we can vacation swap houses like they did in The Holiday! LOL! Yes - I agree - that girls room that is decked out in all those fabulous shades of turqouise, green and white is simply wonderful! That Poster did such an amazing job at pulling that room together so well.

Do you need that tall white armoire, since you already have the built-in drawers and the large closet? If yes, then I would put the tall dresser where the head of the bed is now. If there is room, I would put the crib on the wall you first suggested, between the window and the built-ins. I would get a changing pad for the top of the built-in and use that as the changing table. It will be very convenient in the middle of the night when you are sleepy to just move to the left and change her, rather than taking her into the bathroom. I would try the rocker and ottoman in the corner where the windows meet. A perfect place to sit with the baby. Congrats on the new addition!

How about a soft white or cream? it would keep it light and bright while you use other colors. I think pink and mustard would be a fresh color scheme with white walls and would work with gray Pink and green is also another fun, unexpected color combo with keeping with the nature theme. I know you said you don't want pink but a very light pink (almost white) can read as a neutral.
