help with a rug size/shape for my living room.

I have no decorating skills! I am getting my walls painted a neutral olor and am waiting on some lamps so please forgive the horrible walls now. I have this charcoL grey sectional that appears darker than it is I think from the terrible lighting. It benjamin Knighton polyester. I am trying to figure out what the best way to approach a rug is. I have the sofa pulled out from the wall, and was going to see what the advice is. Also, trying to get rid of brown couch, so ideas would be appreciated!
Tried to get pics from all angles .
I found a couple rugs I like but I don’t know if they would work or what size etc.

5 years agoI like the idea of a grey and yellow combo and the other. Also like the blue and yellow thought but I’m not sure what size and if I need a large rug these are super expensive

Comments (13)Oly, I love the rug. It's nice to walk and stand on, and the color is perfect. It's 100% wool, which I love. The couch will be the same navy leather as the chairs in a few weeks. It is on order. So the pattern in the rug won't compete with the floral in the couch. Ingrid, thanks for your suggestions. Everything faces the tv in this room (over the fireplace). I'd i loves the right hand chair to be directly across from the window chair, it would sit in the middle of an open wall to the dining room. Yes, the couch is at an angle. About 45 degrees. It brings it into the room instead of so far back u see the stairs. There is a sofa table behind it, also at an angle. There is enough room behind that for me to walk back there. Comments (5)It's good to have the rug connect the pieces in the seating group. The most common way to do that is to have the front 1/3 or so of the front legs sit on the rug. Comments (9)Is there an eat in kitchen or would the dining space be the all-the-time eating space? I like Judy's layout if there is another more casual eating area (breakfast/lunch). traipsing across living space (from kitchen) for every meal doesn't seem functional. That said, walking into your fireplace area as a LR isn't ideal either. I think it could have 2 chairs and be cozy but the TV and living space would have to be across the way. 5 years agoA 5' x 8' rug is the minimum. I would suggest a 8' x 10' thought to give you a little extra space as shown in the attached photo below.

5 years agolast modified: 5 years agoI guess the paint/wall has goof imperfections, but me I'd probably try it - not amber-warm door or curtains, but palemutedcooler.... oh well..so the red is striking, not sticking in my eye... longggg shot cause you said you've "been convinced" and I do get it... but would this work with current sofa and throw? large canvases of thin-sketched lines in art, maybe white background....or whatever feels "RED" to you... :)
