I like your inspiration pic very much. If you know anyone that has the BM Color Preview deck take a look at the OC color's. What color is your daughters furniture? If it's white take a look at colors near and around BM Halo. The white furniture will show that the walls aren't white but the wall color will still read almost white but w/ color if you know what I'm trying to say. Grey is tricky. So is white, blue, red, pink, green....and so on. Whenever you are trying to pick a color that color is tricky! Heck - black was tricky when I was trying to pick the right shade of black! My son's room when he was a toddler also had a chair rail. We painted the bottom a medium mossy green and the top of the wall a pale sky blue. The chair rail was painted the green color as well. Using the chair rail as a kind of border, I stenciled ferns, ladybugs, lizards, snakes, butterflies, etc. to evoke a rainforest. It was very sweet and easily done. And of course stencils are so easy to paint over when they grow up. It was great for him because he loved rainforests. I agree with the above post -tailor it toward your son's interests.

Interesting question! Not knowing your children at all, some generic suggestions would be to avoid sensory overload- steer clear of too much pattern, colour, clutter etc. Try to create a calm and soothing environment where everything has a place. Do they have any special sensory equipment? I teach special needs students and many of them have items at home like small trampolines, cocoon chairs that hang from the ceiling etc. I’d look into possibly including items like that. I know that my students are very resistant to change and any change to their environment can be stressful. Could you include your daughters to help them have a sense of control as their room is put together? Perhaps working from a favourite colour. Or giving them options like, which of these three lamps do you like the best?

It is far more common for a child to want a, well, childish color--bubble gum pink or Barney purple or Superman red or Green Lantern green. I can't say whether Tate Olive is something she'll get tired of, but if she doesn't, you'll have a room with a nice grown-up paint color when she eventually moves out. I think "too dark and moody" is entirely a matter of taste, and given that tweens and teens can be kind of dark and moody (hah!) I wouldn't see that as a big concern. I would paint a large sample board to try out in the room to make sure the effect is what she's going for (when we are extrapolating from a tiny paint swatch, there can be a huge gap between how we imagine a color will look on something as big as a wall and how it actually looks, and that goes for adults and kids alike). But if you try out a large sample and she still likes it, I say go for it. For pinks, I think a blush would be nice (something like BM Bashful or for a bit more color, Love Always). Something on the peach end of pink rather than the orchid/purple end. And since Tate Olive is a bit on the muted side, I probably would also keep the pink pretty muted.
