Comments (2)Art should be chosen on this basis only: Do you love looking at it and does it in some way speak to your heart? In my opinion, one of the biggest missed opportunities in creating a home is in not making an effort to discover the styles of art that tell the story of YOU. We often see art suggested and chosen because the pieces "match" other elements of a room. The end result is a home that looks like a showroom but lacks soul. I adore Native American art and have it throughout my home (even in the kitchen and bathrooms). My art speaks to my relationships, my belief system, and my experiences. Yours should reflect your own personal story. I don't mean this to sound all woo-woo; I just think it makes all the difference to a home when the artwork is selected out of love, and not by theme or color or anything else that means you only buy the things that "go"....See MoreArt studio/ sitting area decorating ideas

Comments (7)In top search box I put "shelves on either side of fireplace in photos" and a lot of ideas come up. One thing I would like to say (based on personal experience): If you are a neat freak, go with the open shelving. If not, go with shelving that has doors.
