Help us determine what’s missing from the front of our house?
Comments (49)IMO you currently have no way for a visitor to distinguish where the entry is. The large sea of paving created by the drive and turn around or parking spaces vs. the narrow entry tucked between the two building wings gives no clear message of where a visior should enter. The narrow path and archway to the courtyard says to me that it is private space, akin to walking into someone’s back yard uninvited. I would likely follow the drive around the house if I were looking for the front door, assuming that the house was spun 90 degrees with the entry facing right. Bryan Lovely’s second drawing solves this with problem with a clear pathway from the driveway to the entrance, an entry patio, and bright plantings that bring attention to the home entry. While his planting layout doesn’t do much for me, and I think the path should be wider, at least 6’ wide, this general scheme will improve the front entry and make the house far more welcoming than its current front facade. Tiny changes like window trim don’t solve the largest issue of how a first time visitor find the entrance to a home that presents a barricaded appearance....See MoreHow to attach wall soap dish?
Comments (3)You don’t have a lot of options there. If you were highly skilled you might be able to fabricate a matching clip that you could epoxy to the back of the soap dish. But that would be difficult to get just right even if you're skilled. The only other alternatives I can think of are to get a new soap dish, or permanently epoxy the existing soap dish to the wall....See MoreHelp...Dining room what’s missing
Comments (30)Love the art and wouldn’t add drapes, so as to keep the clean lines. Since a chandelier is not dictating where table is placed, would the space allow for a narrow console or side board under artwork if you shifted the table down a bit. It will ground the wall and you can add a lamp for extra warmth and low lighting and save you big time instead of installing a chandelier. Bonus with piece is extra storage/serving surface and once accessorized, a more interesting space....See MoreOutdoor area just isn’t inviting. Suggestions?
Comments (17)Beautiful ocean view and I wouldn't want to lose it. How about just a low picket fence to divide the pit area from the lawn area and block you and guests from direct view of each other? You'd still have your ocean view. The same kind of fence could extend out from the shed and hide the mechanicals. With a gate it could serve as a stash spot for the kettle grill and any accessories not in use. I love the look of Adirondack chairs but they are too low and angled for many people to get in and out of. Your current chairs are a nice blue, but I find that all of your seating everywhere is metal and leggy. Not really a good look and making for a cluttered feeling. Too bad the storage building is a bit shorter than the one opposite it. Would have made a nice connector for a pergola to span the entire area from the bar across....See Moreshaxhome (Frog Rock, Australia 9b)
