Need ideas for re-usable grocery bag storage
Comments (34)I keep plastic bags tucked into empty paper tissue boxes. I find the "boutique" size is the easiest to store. Then I scatter them around the house in bathrooms, closets, etc and in the car. A surprising number of plastic grocery bags can be stuffed into one empty tissue bag. Years ago I bought a bunch of little plastic trash cans that are made to reuse plastic grocery bags. A link for something like them is below. I'll be the first to admit, they are not "decorative" but by now, everyone "gets" the point. I can loop 4 or five bags in each can, one inside the other. It makes it so easy to collect the trash from bedrooms, bathrooms, the office and laundry room. Here is a link that might be useful: Trash can for reusing plastic grocery bags...See MoreKnife storage
Comments (4)I'm making a knife pullout block. It's basically an upside down drawer with the base on a slant with spaces for the knifes. The sides are long enough to cover all the exposed edges when open. There is a divider between this and the door below so no one can open the lower drawer and get anywhere near the knife points. This way the knife drawer won't get full of crumbs or crawly things - it's easy to clean. Haven't made it yet - so no pictures. Island and other two drawers are done and we got the butcherblock top yesterday, so maybe we'll get to it this weekend....See MoreWood storage ideas?
Comments (1)I recently helped a friend build something like this in his garage. We started with a small platform raised on 2x4 skids to keep the materials off the cement floor. On that we built an open frame slightly over 4' tall, 8' long and a foot or so wide with a vertical divider. Full sheets of plywood, drywall, etc. slide in through the end of that cavity. On top of that we built 2 smaller open frameworks for lumber, lengths of pipe and conduit, etc. The deck is wider than the sheet goods rack, so offcuts of sheet goods can be left outside the main rack but leaning against it, where you're likely to see them and use them up first....See MoreShow me your favorite island storage ideas
Comments (4)Well, I like mine for my space: trash/recycle pullout on the narrow end opening toward the sink; warming drawer and pots/pans drawers on the long side opening toward the oven wall; stack of 4 drawers on the narrow end opening toward the kitchen table (where we store napkins, flatware, etc.); raised eating bar on the other long side. That works great for my set up but there's nothing particularly unique about it. For clever and unique use of space, I really like firsthouse_mp's recessed paper towel holder in her island. (See link, scroll down a few pictures, and be prepared to drool.) firsthouse - hope I'm not stealing your thunder by posting this!
