Fall 2018 East Tennessee Plant Swap

The Fall 2018 East Tennessee Plant Swap will be held at New Harvest Park, 4775 New Harvest Lane, Knoxville TN 37918 on Saturday, October 6, 2018. Swapping begins at 10:00am (no exchanges before that, please). We will have a pot-luck lunch at 11:30am. Please make plans now to come join the fun on swap day! As always, new gardeners are especially invited to attend. There are always plenty of plants in need of good homes, fellow friendly plant addicts excited about trading, and the best food around. Even if you don't have much to offer for trade, PLEASE come, make new friends, and be prepared to leave with lots of awesome stuff!

The swap is entirely free and absolutely nothing will be sold, but it does cost the coordinators a little to reserve the park and pay for hosting services for the website. A donation of two or three dollars per person, with a maximum of five dollars per family, would help us cover these expenses.

It's just 4 weeks now until the fall swap! I have posted my list on the Swap Forum on the swap's website (linked above). If you are planning to come to the swap, consider posting your "haves" and "wants" on the website!

The Fall 2009 ETPS will be at New Harvest Park near Target in the Knoxville Center Mall Area. The swap will begin at 2PM on Sunday, October 11. We aren't posting a recommended setup time this time (you know how much time you need) and, instead of a meal, we'll be doing snacks/finger foods whenever you're hungry. Chris, I got you down as firmly committed to be there. LOL We have a website ( www.easttnplantswap.com/ ) with a swap forum that is usually used to post pre-trades and list what you're bringing. I think Laura is working on upgrading the site right now, so I'm not sure when it will be available. For now, just watch for updates here. If we get the swap forum up and going, there will be an announcment here or on a new thread. In the mean time, you could post the things you were interested in trading on the Tennessee Gardening Exchange Forum and list it as "ET Fall Plantswap Trades" or something like that. There aren't as many people using the Gardenweb Tennessee Gardening Exchange Forum as I wish there were, but it is an option until our own swap forum gets back up and running. It was a mutual collaboration between me, Cheryl, and Karen. We were somewhat limited this time by not having the website, but at least we had a swap. If everyone had as good of a time as I did, it was a great success. Hopefully, we can get a jump on the Spring swap and it'll be bigger and better than ever. If anyone has ideas, let us know!!!

Attendance was down a little. We ended up with 22. The weather was great. The lunch was a little disappointing. Only us and one other person brought anything for the pot-luck lunch. Only about four people stayed to eat. We definitely need to do better next time!

Thanks for the update. It continues to perplex me as to why the Fall Swap is smaller. This is the best time to divide (and share) perennials and the best time to plant most perennials, shrubs, tress and bulbs. Folks who do a lot of vegetable gardening are going to be more active in the spring, but that only accounts for a part of the group. Maybe it's just spring fever!
