I can't get ahead... plans for next year
Comments (23)I have bad soil, half your garden size, and it greatly improved for things not effected by juglone, squash, corn, melons, etc. You wouldn't believe the size difference of the year before, so I'll always compost or at least throw leaves all over garden area. All you have to do is dump bags of leaves about a foot or two high over the whole garden area, maybe mow them to speed up decomposition, and you will have given your garden lots of great leaf mold, plus you already have your manure. I think the manure could be new because it can age all year before you throw it down. I wouldn't waste the manure until about a month or 2 before planting, or maybe even half at the end of the year, save the other half at the beginning, but some in the middle of the year too. I've got beds for next year, waiting to put them in, but I'm waiting for the leaves to fall and looking into local pastures for manure. I couldn't give advice on weeds being I'm going to plant some good weeds over the area until the beds are in. Try ragweed, dandelion with the flowers pruned off, yellow dock, and a few other deep rooted types of weeds that bring nutrients to the top of the soil. They will make good compost....See MoreI can't believe it is Thanksgiving next week
Comments (2)I can't believe this whole year is heading toward history so quickly. I think I'm in denial about the holidays. Regarding the weather, as far as I'm concerned, the warmth and rains are just a payback for the cold spring, the rain-less summer, and the dry non-descript early fall. In our business, we are headed into greenery making soon for the holidays. Because of the nature of the raw-materials, it's always done in an unheated greenhouse and I can't tell you how uncomfortable it can be to do fine handiwork, wiring and bowing with frozen hands and in the perpetual cold........so I welcome the warmer weather in late fall until the goods are made and inventory sufficient. I'm doing the Thanksgiving day feast, don't get flustered with cooking for crowds, and don't even have to crack a cooking book because I've done it so many times and don't experiment with food for holidays......everyone wants the family traditional menu, so I'm looking forward a chance to have the family here and swim in a sea of stuffing. LOL. There is very little I shall have to buy, the turkey is already residing in the freezer, and celery is still growing in my garden. We are doing a gift-exchange for Christmas this year, so shopping shall be minimal and I have already bought cards, and plan to get the tree up earlier and enjoy the spiritual aspects of it this year and not be caught up in the hoop-la. My heart is already into nesting down with bird-watching, quilting, and some house renovation through the winter, and my working in the greenhouses with the flowers and veggie garden plants for next spring. Bring it on!...See Morei can't get in itunes store, it has taken my music but can't buy
Comments (11)More info: TFC (Temp File Cleaner) will clear out all temp folders for all user accounts (temp, IE temp, java, FF, Opera, Chrome, Safari), including Administrator, All Users, LocalService, NetworkService, and any other accounts in the user folder. It also cleans out the %systemroot%\temp folder and checks for .tmp files in the %systemdrive% root folder, %systemroot%, and the system32 folder (both 32bit and 64bit on 64bit OSs). It shows the amount removed for each location found (in bytes) and the total removed (in MB). Before running, it will stop Explorer and all other running applications. When finished, if a reboot is required the user must reboot to finish clearing any in-use temp files. -- TFC only cleans temp folders. -- TFC will not clean URL history, prefetch, or cookies. Depending on how often someone cleans their temp folders, their system hardware, and how many accounts are present, it can take anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or more. TFC will completely clear all temp files where other temp file cleaners may fail....See MoreHelp-- I can't help myself! Next Star
Comments (9)I haven't been able to watch much on the Food Network - it's too East Coast for me. At one point I was going to apply to be a contestant on the show you mentioned, but then I noticed that it would have required spending two weeks of February in NYC, and there was no way I could handle February in NY. I went the first week of December one year, and it was the coldest experience of my life. The temps were only around 30 degrees, but the chill from the winds coming down the avenues was far colder than anything else I had ever experienced. My style of cooking is also very different - I almost never use salt, and I see people adding salt to recipes with every step on that show - that turns me off to any of those recipes. I would like to see them do episodes with a ban on salt & pepper. I tend to use chilies more than black pepper, although pepper bothers me less than salt. I do watch Project Runway, however! Since I no longer do fashion design (and am too old), I never considered being a contestant on that show, however. Lars...See MoreSaypoint zone 6 CT
