Length of Buried Pipe for Gutter Downspout
Comments (1)BS, If your yard is flat, yes. You need to have at a 1% slope away from the house. That is a 1 foot per 100 foot fall away from the downspout. If it much less than that, the pipe will silt up unless periodically forcefully flushed out. Do you have that? Otherwise you would be looking at a catchment and sump pump system(rainbarrel). Which isn't a bad way to go. Aloha...See MoreSump pump and downspout drainage
Comments (0)I have a lot of irrigation questions so I will try to keep this one focused. Looking at my house the front and rear gutter downspouts drain into PVC piping. This piping is buried next to my driveway. The waterproofing company thinks it will be ok to tie the sump pump drainage into this system. The PVC piping discharges about halfway down my driveway. Already a small "culvert"? has formed about 20 feet long and two feet wide. After the 20 feet the remaining water dumps out onto the driveway into the street. So, two questions. Do you think it's bad advice to tie the sump into this system. Assuming that that is sound, what is the best way to capture the water that is discharging from the PVC. I would like to put in a rain garden (although the space is very narrow and against my property line), or perhaps a dry well. There is nothing really to irrigate on that side of the driveway. Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks, Andrew...See MoreIs a PVC drainage pipe close to radiator pipe a problem?
Comments (3)I would insulate the steam line to within about 1/2 inch of the PVC, then put some sheet metal in the gap touching the insulation but not the water pipe. It might be overkill, but it would take a decent amount of analysis optimize this (and there are probably so many unknowns a precise answer is not going to happen, like how tightly sealed the cavity is)....See Moredrainage using corrugated piping
Comments (6)The corrugated pipes also breed mosquitoes. Enough water hangs around in the bottom of the pipe to make lots of little pools for the buggers to lay eggs. Use PVC DWV pipes. It is really worth the trouble. The lines are easier to clear when they get glogged with debris....See MoreYardvaark
