anyone else have trouble with Memorial Day
Comments (10)I invariably take the bait when a new "heat-loving" HT appears on the market. 'Memorial Day' was one of those. What a disappointment it's been! Kim's observation that MD likes hot AND arid conditions is probably key to growing this rose successfully. Even during the summer just passed which produced very little rainfall, our humidity remained high, and MD remained the lackluster bush that it's always been. I've allowed it to hang around for at least 4 years. It'll be SP'd by the end of this week. Remember the "Some Like it Hot" phrase that was prominent in the marketing campaign for 'Marilyn Monroe'? Well, she's another one that might be able to take the heat, but has a pronounced pout in highly humid heat. She's not as bad as 'Memorial Day', but she's also on my SP roster. (I'll be thrilled to get rid of those seriously viscious prickles, too.)...See MoreAnyone else having trouble seeing posts?

Comments (10)Oh my!!! I WISH you would've come to my Paint Dept.!!! To correct a couple things.... 1) Stores calibrate their Scanner(s), not the tinters. Although computerized tinters usually have to be calibrated yearly. 2) Competitive-brand fandeck software can cost a bundle, and some stores may not want to buy this kinda stuff. All these REALLY are...are just lab-scans of different fandecks, and converted to formulas for a certain stores'/brands colorant-databases. 3) I do two things....I'll look at the "Stored formula" in our competitive library, and compare it to a couple of scans. Then I "back off" of a couple colorants, and shoot the color. This way, I can always add more to tweak a color. >>> There's no way to know if a stores' "Scan-Library" (Competitive Fandecks) will match a chip until the paints actually made. >>> Ask me how I know this....;-) From now on people: * Specify in your painters' contracts that you DO NOT want a color matched into "their favorite" brand...UNLESS you're OK with it. Possibly something like "No color matching". * Or, like I deal with every day...."I want -color x- matched into C2 paint". No problem there! It's usually quite a step up from the color-chip/brand they have! * Inquire with painters if they have favorite brands, and find out specifics. If you have a firm preference, see if your painter is OK with it too. Many will apply what you like. Others are pretty set in their ways!! Sorry for being "Mr. Wordy" there! Comments (6)I rarely ever buy fabric except with particular project in mind, so this isn't a problem with me. Oh, except for that one bundle of six coordinated half yard cuts that I've never found a pattern for. See, that's why I don't do it. I did love getting a bunch of fat quarters and half yard cuts from a friend who was moving and de-stashing though. It's so fun to make scrappy quilts with fabric you would never buy yourself, but that looks great in scrappies....See Morejim1961 / Central Pennsylvania / Zone 6
