Plants to grow under hollyhocks?

Lindsay 5a

I love hollyhocks and so I've planted groups of them all over my yard, including right in front of my house. The only thing I don't love about them is how they start to get sparse and scraggly looking this time of year, as they go to seed and the leaves start dying back. I'd love to plant something short (6-12") underneath them that will fill in that area of my garden this time of year.

Any suggestions?

The hollyhocks are in full sun, facing south, but of course they'd partially/mostly shade anything underneath them for about half of the summer. Early spring, and late summer, anything under them would be mostly full sun. I was thinking sedum, maybe?

Thanks!
