what is going to hatch out of these??

Family a little spooked to find these stuck to the underside of a cloth awning in southern Spain. They look like chrysalises but as they are in a batch of 19 in a neat row surely they must be eggs but from what? We've been watching them for 5 days now so if you guys don't know the answer we might fairly soon.... my daughters are wary of them, sitting as they do above our dinner table :-)
I don't have a ruler but estimate they are around 7-8mm wide and around 18mm in length. Kind of hoping they aren't eggs as what could lay something that size??
thanks in advance for your collective wisdom..
