Comments (6)Lovely! I like the classic white tile and porcelain and how you used furniture pieces in the bathroom. I love that the storage at the end of the tub has pull-outs that can be reached from the toilet. Your custom sink and backsplash and counter are unique and beautiful. Yours may be the first bathroom sink I have seen in which a small or medium dog could be washed! That is a good thing! I showed your pictures to my DH because I am thinking of classic tiled walls with a chair rail for when we redo our bath in a couple of years. He liked it! I was expecting him to say, "too old fashioned." He did not, he said it looked nice. From him, nice is a compliment. He even liked your rows of listello. I was just at the Tile Shop's site the other day looking at the Hampton tiles because someone was selling some on Craigslist. I am hoping to do as you did and get what I can cheaper there, and fill in the rest from the store. I can see that you worked very hard to secure all of your materials - and then cut the floor tiles to size and culled the Hampton tiles, too! You succeeded very well in getting the look you wanted while saving money along the way. Congratulations, and thank you for the pictures and great detail and supply list....See MoreBathroom Remodel. Comments (7)If I am counting the squares in your diagram correctly, you have less than two feet between the wall of the toilet room and the shower, so you cannot expand the shower to the left. I wonder at the diagram, however, because the shower is shown extending right up to the edge of the window, yet that is obviously not true in your photo, where you say the bit of green wall between the window and the shower is about 9 inches wide. That indicates that the bathroom does not match the diagram, to me. Maybe someone else can help you interpret this. I don't know why folks are not joining in this discussion. Since you do not mind losing the door to the closet, you can consider making the shower the same width it is now, but extend its length of that wall as far as you want to go. Of course, the window will have to be modified to have it in the shower, or it will need to be removed. If you don't want a 7 ft long shower, you could add a bump-out or cupboard inside your closet. It seems that no matter where you put your shower, it is going to have a window inside of it if you want it to be bigger or if you don't want to move the toilet room. Having that little room in the center of your bathroom severely limits your options. If you simply extend the shower out toward the closet door, you can have a vanity starting at the window edge where the tub is now, extending toward the shower as far as you wish to go. In front of the windows, you could put in a seat, or get a large plant on a stand. The wall between the window and closet could hold hooks for robes or towels. I would think about ending the vanity before the shower, though, and having towel hooks or a towel warmer there....See MoreTiny Bathroom Remodel Dilemma - no room for light switch?
Comments (16)Thanks for all the comments! We have lived with this layout for years. This is current master bath, but we are doing an addition for the master suite and this will be come the guest en suite. @Greg GN Builders. we had a door there before, it was in the same opening and opened into the shower. I hated it. That's why we thought of a pocket door however nobody realized the light switch issue until now. @3onthetree the shower is 30x30. It's a super tiny stall but we've had a vanity in there already. Basically it's one person at a time in the bathroom. @KW PNW Z8 We had a vanity before and I wanted to go with a pedestal because I feel like it will open the room up a bit. You're right we give up the cabinet space but we have a large medicine cabinet mirror and we have 16x32 builtin shelves to the left of the sink where I can store a hair dryer and put things in nice baskets. Since it will be a guest bath, we don't want to store a lot in there anyway. To all who asked about moving the door or going to a swinging door, the pocket door is already framed in. The lights witch discovery was after framing. So we're going to have to make this work somehow. I never even thought about it honestly. We are going to talk to the electrician on Monday but we may have to go with the switch in the bedroom. @HU-272757914 I will just pretend I'm Canadian. LOL. I was planning to put a towel hook (not a bar, just a hook like this one https://www.build.com/product/summary/562687?uid=226702&jmtest=gg-gbav2_226702&inv2=1&&source=gg-gba-pla_226702!c1674295647!a65665541995!dc!ng&gclid=CjwKCAiA9vOABhBfEiwATCi7GF9Yx_r09UltqYxbcWZy1lqD2imO9JX6QMc3riXxtLtwkg2XHkryLRoCTNsQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds to the right of the shower before the built in but now I think I'm going to need to put light switches there. That's a dilemma for sure....See Moresheloveslayouts
