Comments (37)"I like every single thing about this plan." That opinion may be based upon lack of understanding of what the drawings show. I avoid: Designs that do not relate to the site. Closets where hanging clothes turn corners. Windowless walk-in closets. Kitchens with overly large work triangle. Large expanses of exterior wall without windows. Walk-in closets that will be difficult to walk into. Hallways less than four feet wide. Stairs less than 3'-6" wide. Freestanding tubs that do not have sufficient space to clean around. Powder room off main entry A powder room where you can sit in and carry on a conversation with someone in the living room and have visual contact with. Powder room window that opens to a front entry porch. Master bathrooms with little counter space. Bathtub/shower with a window. Closets with doors that insufficiently provide full access to the closet's content. Dimension that go to the center line of walls. to name a few....See MoreLooking for design advice on updating exterior of home.
Comments (15)Nicki, your painter is a hack is he was going to use regular paint on the brick. regular paint won't allow the brick to breathe. it will eventually peel or could cause moisture retention on the brick. please, if you want to lime wash, look at Romabio products. it's not that expensive and it's made for masonry products. Because Classico Limewash is highly permeable and breathable, it calcifies to the brick for maximum durability and will continue to patina over time, lasting decades without having to repaint or maintain the finish. Due to the high pH of the paint, it is naturally mold-resistant and has a high UV and fade resistance allowing the color to keep its depth and quality over time. (and perhaps look into a real professional painter that knows what products go where) get a sample of the romabio and just try it. it washes off within 5 days if you don't like it. Transform your brick or stone in one, easy-to-apply coat of paint Classico Limewash is an authentic slaked-lime paint specially formulated to create unique wash off effects for the Interior or Exterior. Whitewashed brick has a charming Old World feel with a freshly painted look. You can update your home while still keeping the warmth of the brick exposed, and not having to fully commit to completely painted brick. The best part is, it’s removable! There’s no stress when deciding the color or look that you want. The paint is designed to be washed off in the first 5-days following application so you can test it as you want. It can easily be touched up because of its flat finish. It is made to last and is manufactured in Italy with the highest-quality ingredients. https://romabio.com/masonry/limewash/ageless-beauty/...See MoreColonial exterior design advice please!!
Comments (16)What is above the garage? Are you you using the term "colonial" in the real estate marketing sense or the architectural sense? The current design meets the former but is a long way from the latter. Colonial houses often had barns benind them that were connected with smaller buildings. See "Big House, Little House, Back House, Barn, the conneted farm buildings of New England" in paperback. Here is a Colonial house on Cape Cod built in 1693. Notice the taller widnow head trim and the portico with 4 square classical columns (not posts) and 2 matching pilasters behind them and "close" rakes and eaves and a large central chimney. The shutters would be very dark green and the window panes 8 over 8 for early examples and 6 over 6 for later ones. Also, look at Classic Colonial Homes...See Morecpartist
