What size round table? please help.

Hi all! I have a 12x12 breakfast nook area that is bordered by the kitchen counter and island on one side, and the pathway to the family room on another side. The 2 other side are walls with windows. I'd like to comfortably fit 6 people at a round table. I am hesitating between a 60 in and a 54 in table. Please advise. I want it to be comfortable so I’m leaning towards the 60 in. But I want to make sure there’s enough space to cause a clear demarcation between the kitchen and the breakfast nook. I don't want them to run into each other with little space to walk in between. Please help... Once I buy the 60in table, I’m pretty much stuck with it. So any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

C Brown, the most important thing is the base of the table. I would go with a simple pedestal that gives you the most leg room.

To comfortably fit 6, I would go with the 60". I have a similar breakfast nook, but just a bit narrower and my 60" round table fits just fine. I even have a 7th chair in the corner that we can squeeze in, even though my chairs are quite large.

Thank you so much Chispa!! It’s so hard to find an espresso 60in table at a decent price and I wanted to make sure I wasn’t making a mistake. Thank you!

why don't you get some painters tape and mark out the size you think you'd like, or the max that you can use there. don't forget chairs and having to scoot them back to get in and out. what if you used a round table and got one w/a leaf when you want bigger? You have so many rectangular lines in that one area, using something round will soften it a bit. I think something like this would be perfect

The practical limitation on a round table is 60" or 5 feet diameter. After that, you can't pass food or dishes across the table. Unless you put a lazy susan in the middle of the table, that can be a real drawback. Also, large round tables are (in my opinion) are very inefficient in space/seating and will "push out" taking most the space in the room. Good luck in your decisions. Duane Collie

Forget the espresso right now and look at some other options IMO espresso furniture is almost all cheap crap from China and not worth anything. As for size a 54” table will seat 6 and IMO will fit the room better

You need 24" of pull back for a chair at a table. You have 12', so 5' table leaves you 3-1/2' on each side for pull back. You are fine.

We had a 54" dining table once and I hated it. I definitely wouldn't want it in a breakfast nook. 54 inches was an awkward conversational distance. I suppose if you have six people at the table every day it makes sense, but we were two adults with a toddler and an infant and it was totally the wrong setup for us. We used our small 3x5 trestle table in the breakfast nook until the dining table was swapped out for an expandable round to oval with a butterfly leaf.

leelee, those numbers are extremely optimistic and don't account for chairs size, people size, or being able to push the chairs in a bit at the end of the day for a nicer look.

I have nice size chairs that are very comfortable and six chairs is the everyday maximum for my 60" round table. I can squeeze in a 7th chair. Make sure you mock up the table and your chair size to get an accurate representation of how many chairs/people will actually fit in your set up.

Those numbers might be for rental event furniture where you are using slim folding chairs.
