Hi everyone, Thank you all for your help! Yes, something like the link below is about right, but a pinkish color, and it was a little more rounded. It didn't have glass at the top that was lit up, like the first link that somebody posted (horrible way of explaining it, but do you see what I mean?). the furniture is a pretty large obstacle to overcome. color, style, size.... changing the furniture has to cost less than adding windows.

I agree with trimming the mantel length just a bit, maybe 12" each end. Currently it cuts the FP in half. It would visually flow with shorter mantel. What about a pair of light wood or cream (or light to medium green) painted chests on either side, with mismatched but similar lamps and artwork above. Artwork can be large pieces, or one large piece and other side stacked, or both stacked. Depends on how uniformed you like your spaces. I like more fluid spaces.

Love the orange lamp and the bookcase. The two jibe in my amateur opinion. Will the floor lamp be as functional as you need? (Is its cactus shape a nod to the Mexico locale?) The bulbs don't seem the type to give off much light. I understand the Stix pendant light can't be returned but I think it's fairly versatile and subtle, all things considered. Would need to see it in the room though. Your sofa and loveseat pics didn't post. The bones of the space as you describe them lend themselves to almost anything really. I suspect it could handle anything from minimalist to full maximalist eclectic. Don't let your initial decor style "label" restrict you too much. Home is a space that functions for your lifestyle and reflects your personality.
