White shaker kitchen project finally done
Comments (38)I REALLY love the feel of your kitchen! Somehow plain, practical, and functional (and I mean that all in a good way...Plain as in having clean lines without too much fussy or overly dressy feeling detail), homey and a bit unfitted with some colorful dishes, select open shelving, etc., but still very neat and with a place for everything and everything in its place' organization. (Long sentence, sorry!) I love how the 2 surfaces on the island turned out, although I have to admit, I wouldn't have thought I would like the change of counter over the dishwasher...Shows how picky we can get when working 'on paper' and how great things can look when finished. Of course, the spice rack is a shining star in the room, and it was a great idea to include it under the crown molding....See MoreWhite and Grey kitchen reveal! Finally!
Comments (13)Thanks for all the positive comments....we are so happy with the way the kitchen turned out. I have to give all the credit to my DW, who saw this vision in her head from the beginning....it turned out exactly how she imagined it. It is such a dramatic change from what we previously had. The granite is definitely the show piece....we never intended on having such a dramatic granite, but once we saw it, that was it....we had to have it, and it was at the top of the pricing tier! The paint was another great choice my DW....Benjamin Moore Steel Wool....we love it against the white cabinets....such a great contrast. The tile is a close second behind the granite as our favorite part of the kitchen....we absolutely love it. At first the wife was hesitant to go with 12x24 (she wanted 12x12)....but I really felt like it was the right decision, so she went with it, and she loves it! Laying it in the opposite direction of the cabinets was definitely the right decision.......See MoreFinished (finally) kitchen - dark cherry wood and delicatus
Comments (60)Thanks rtwilliams! We have a Nebraska furniture mart just a few minutes away so will have to go check it out and look at what they have (bet my husband won't even let me near the place). I still have my heart set on a creamy leather chair to team up with a black table .....maybe something similar to this (although I kind of wanted something with a nailhead trim too) and maybe a nice rug. And...and.... The paint that I used for the doors is Sherwin Williams All Surface Enamel Latex in Satin Black. I had no idea what I was doing, so it is what the salesperson recommended. The first one I painted about 6 weeks ago, so it hasn't gotten too much wear and tear yet, but it seems to be holding up well. I was really worried about how it would clean up, but we actually scraped the popcorn off the ceiling of a room with a black door (anybody who has done this knows how much dust it generates), and it cleaned up beautifully. The true test will be the door to the garage because the dogs will sometimes scratch to go out. Not very vigorously, so we'll see how much it will take....See MoreYawn, Another Cream Shaker Cabs/Soapstone CT/Wood flr finished ki
Comments (21)Hi - sorry for the delayed response, we went away for the weekend. Hated to leave my new kitchen, but the kids deserved some sort of a summer after dealing with the remodel. My "Yawn" title is tounge in cheek, I figured you are all tired of all the cream cabinet/soapstone kitchens - but of course each one *is* unique, and I love seeing each and every one of them. Sundownr - I don't know if I had a comment on that light fixture or not, but my brother & his then girlfriend gave that to me as a wedding present. It came from a foo-foo artisan place in Cambridge, MA. It was high style for the times (88) :-) Rubyfig, the towel bar is a find from the bath department of Marshalls (but I saw the same ones at TJ Max and home goods). It's 18", and I think I paid $10 :-) Which is WAY less than the $140 for the Fusion Sonoma one that matches my soap dispenser. Here are some pictures for you: From Lynne's Kitchen Renovation From Lynne's Kitchen Renovation From Lynne's Kitchen Renovation Hi Kristin - yes, I love the hardwood except for the big scratch that they left in it :-( And, I am really sorry to say, I've got a buckle in front of the fridge! That's another post. I can't wait to see pictures of your kitchen with the backsplash - I decided to forego one in my kitchen, partly a budget decision, partly due to the size, etc., I am trying to keep it simple. Brutuses - actually, that's the Electrolux French door, but same difference about the ice, I'm sure. I don't have to worry about a dog (until my brother brings his to visit), but I'll keep that in mind! Penny, the cabinets *are* cream - and the biscotti is definitely on the yellow side of the creams, but the KD brought the biscotti and the other one (linen?) to my house, and I realized that it was almost an exact match for the paint I had done in our adjacent office and paneling. I love it, but I'm glad it's so easy to clean, because you do see every drip (although, maybe not every fingerprint, because I noticed them on the close up pictures of the hardware, but not before then :-) Thanks to all for the compliments - I do love it, and I think it will really improve our quality of life. It's easier to work in, excellent to entertain, and is easier to clean up. It will take a little getting used to it, but I'm finding it's coming a lot quicker than I thought it would, which is a good sign, right? Please feel free to ask any questions - I'm happy to help in anyway, I got so much help from this forum, I want to give back. Lynne...See MoreStacey Collins
