3 season porch window dilemma

Any ideas on what to replace these 1950 Rusco storm windows with? They are unable to be cleaned and are in need of replacement. I found ONE company in Minnesota who will make custom real glass windows to replace these. They recommended double hung with 6 panes of glass on the top portion only to match my upstairs upper windows. Any other ideas? Or companies I could look into to get competitive bid? I am currently getting bid from Monray window company. Thanks

I think Windows on Washington is on the right track as usual. Monray is not cheap and this could probably be done for the same price or cheaper with a nice vinyl double hung With insulated glass and low-E . This would allow it to be a true 3 season porch in Mn. And the LowE would prevent overheating On warmer days, a little heater may even extend it year round. I would look at Larsons Higher end storms as well sonde they are pretty nice and typically much cheaper than Monray. The fact that Monray does custom sizes is nothing special as this is the norm with most window manufacturers.

Given the finished nature of what is inside the 3-Seasons room, are you sure that an actual insulated window isn't maybe called for here?

You'll have a hard time duplicating that look with the narrowness of the profiles, but you can get close to the same arrangement with a double hung with some clear glass

We are looking at purchasing double hungs but not the insulated type. I think that would be cost prohibitive?

Storm Doors as 3 Season Porch windows

Has anyone had any experience with using Storm Doors as a windows alternative for 3 season porch? This is what I'm building on top of my existing deck: http://imgur.com/a/OzyJU What's I'm planing to do is to get a dozen of EMCO 200 Series triple track storm doors, take out the windows, ganging them together by two with a simple frame, which will roughly give me 4x4' coverage (my plans say 3.5x5' but that can be adjusted). I could technically install the doors w/out taking them apart but that will create an ugly mix of white aluminum and wood (going for the wood look on the inside) plus the gap between windows in each section will be to big; ganging them together with a piece of 1x2 in-between will look much better.

I made my own out of painter's dropcloths I got at Menards. Simple rod pocket big enough to slide on pole I made from electrical conduit. They extend the whole length of my porch when closed. I tie them back when I want them open. Simple to take down, wash & dry each year. You could also do a roll-up blind(s) made for the weather. I believe I had one from Lowes.

I don't think you will find much in the non-insulated variety. Everything will be double pane at a minimum and most will include Low-e and Argon. The cost offset for the Low-e is usually so reasonable that the number of clear glass windows that we sell on a per year basis is probably less than 20.

It’s a 3 season room - I don’t think she needs double paned glass on an unconditioned space.
If you want mullioned windows, you could look into buying wooden double hung barn windows - I don’t know the pricing on them, but if you search them on the internet there are a lot of results. Otherwise, just go with a storm - there are a bazillion sources out there. Spencerworks makes a gorgeous one that would look great on your house - it looks just like a traditional wooden storm, but has hidden tracks for a screen.

Being in Minnesota, I don't think it would hurt either way. Additional insulative value in the outermost wall will less the heat transfer on the interior wall.

If you plan on using them (i.e. opening and closing) a good bit, I have never seen a storm window that works as well as a regular window long term, but I certainly appreciate the offset in aesthetic here.

Most Monrays that we price out are as expensive as many of the windows that we use so I will be interested to see what you come up with as a price per unit.

Thank you for your help. I think easiest most economical is to go with storms. In Minnesota, Monray is only company I found that will do custom application. I checked with Renewal by Anderson, and don’t want EZ Breeze, so maybe I’ll call a Marvin rep. Maybe you are better at searching google than me!
